These girls gain valuable ex- perience in their future voca- tions, as well as being useful to Mrs. Sharnbaugh in the various duties of the office A co-operative and serviceable girl constantly at the call of her boss is the teacher's sec- retary. Among her various du- ties are typing tests and record- ing grades. One year of typing is required. 2l -J The sales staff of the Anchor plays an important part in pro- moting the sale of stationery to defray the cost of printing our yearbook. Each member of the staff must sell a ten dollar quota. The high salesmen of this year are Betty Stevens, Sharon Spurling, and Barbara Grant. Other members are Kathy Zoller, Bernadette Bal- dus, Janice McMullen, Sharon Lauth, Becky Pickard, Penny Brehob, Nancy Stacy, Sharon Ford, Carol Renner, Ray Starks, Ray Turner, Deanna Dennis, Linda Cunningham, and Wan- da Jameson. During the festivities of the final portion of their high school career, the seniors had mixed feelings, They were happy to be seniors, sharing the close companionship of their class- mates, but sorry to be graduating and facing more difficult world which might not include their high school friends. Commencement is a time of sadness and joy, of hope and anxiety. yi' Twelve years of study and work was culminated by the presentation of di- plomas to the Seniors at the commence- ment exercises, Dr, Edward Glenn, who is the school superintendent, presided at the ceremony, Throughout high school, students look forward to graduating, but when the final step is upon them they wish they were just beginning. Southport's l959 graduating class was the first to graduate in the new gymnasium. To their parents, rela- tives, friends, and underclassmen the seniors appeared very dignified in their red and white gowns. 23
