Decorations in gay colors help to make the lunch period at Southport High School more appealing to the eye as the seasons change. Season decorations do much to pro- mote good feeling and spirit among the students at various times of the year. Lonnie Beck is shown creating a mural depicting the Christmas Na- tivity scene on an English room black- board. V Southport can be found decorated in some way at almost every season of the year. AI- ways there is an organization ready and will- ing to participate in dressing up the school, Various clubs have the yearly duty of bring- ing Southport to life at certain seasons. Since the cafeteria is utilized by everyone, it is the recipient on the most elaborate decorations. Several teachers take it upon themselves to brighten their rooms with appropriate adorn- ments. The girls at Southport distinguished themselves this year by earning several outstanding awards. Patsy Gig- erich won the Betty Crocker Award, proof of her capa- bilities in homemaking. Kay Saxton traveled to Chicago to participate in the National 4-H Club Congress after Southport High School and students have been the recipients of many awards. Just take a look at Mr. Leedy holding the Times All Sports Trophyl But Southportites are outstanding in other fields too. ln homernaking, Kay Saxton and Pat Gigerich distinguished themselves. As proot of their scholastic abilities, ten jun- iors were accepted as members of the Na- tional Honor Society, and Jerry Dennerline came out on top to be named valedictorian ot the i960 Class. Southport High School was awarded the Times All Sports Trophy for the third time, thus permanently retiring the trophy. South- port's representative this year for the Daughters of the American Revolution good citizenship award was Alma Rugenstein. All three girls are seniors.
