Southport's lockers seem to grow in size behind Sandy Ganes and David Woerner. The bigger they come, the harder they fall! is the slogan of these new freshmen. As the years fly by, school life changes, and l959 saw the beginning of many innova- tions. The freshmen guided dignified upper- classmen through the halls of their former junior high. Each senior donned his best bib and tucker at Christmas time and thus orig- inated Senior Dress-Up Day. Our bigger and better Homecoming featured a parade of class floats and club cars. Braden's Raiders raised the new gym roof with their Hey, Blackie! Go! Go! Go! County tourney, sec- tional, and regional weekends furnished an opportunity for coke and slumber parties. After the games, victories were celebrated and defeats were mourned at pep sessions and soc-hops. For twenty-eight years the above building, designed after William and Mary College, served as our senior high school. lt has now become the junior high school. An enrollment of l,60O . . . a faculty of 64 . , . 63 classrooms . . . a new fieldhouse . . . and freshmen . . . all are iust a few of the many things which have produced The New Look of '59.

This event took place between halves of the Southport-Tech basketball game on No- vember 29, l958.
