ook 0 5 The year 1958-59 will long be remembered as the year of another momentous move, bringing with it great changes and challenges that create a new look for Southport. The greatest of these changes is to become accli- mated to our new and modernistic surround- ings. This new look, however, is set against a giant panoramic background of the past, and on this panorama are cherished memories that are held dear by every graduate who has passed through the halls of Southport High School since the first class in 1891. ln meeting the changes and challenges of the past year, we, the Senior Class of 1959, hope that we have done our part to set a standard that will always challenge the best of the students in the classes to follow. As we take our places in the world, it will be our aim to continue to use every challenge as a stepping stone to nobler achievement. After the original school building burned, the above two-story structure was erected. lt housed Southport pupils until 1930.

For twenty-eight years the above building, designed after William and Mary College, served as our senior high school. lt has now become the junior high school. An enrollment of l,60O . . . a faculty of 64 . , . 63 classrooms . . . a new fieldhouse . . . and freshmen . . . all are iust a few of the many things which have produced The New Look of '59.
