,t 5-U if., :a'a'r , , Av f Queens and kings reigned over Southport's annual dances. Our first dance in the new field house was the Sweater Swirl. Mr. and Miss Scrimmage were crowned at this affair which honored football and cross country ath- letes. To protect the basketball floor, no shoes were permitted, and prizes were awarded for the most original footies. Our only other shoeless dance was the Crystal Ball. The Student Council sponsored this gala holiday affair. The boys eagerly awaited the Turn- About Twirl where the girls did the asking and furnished transportation, corsages, and after-dance refreshments. Juniors entertained seniors at the annual prom. Only members of these two classes and their guests were in- vited. The final social event of the year was the May Dance. At this formal affair May Court candidates from each class were chosen. The boys eagerly look forward to the Turn-About Twirl. lt is at this dance that the girls treat the boys to dinner, dancing, transportation and corsages, Prior to the dance, Nancy Brier pins her unique corsage on Terry Fewell. NEW FIELDHOUSE PRGVIDED This picture shows how well attended and popular the dances at Southport are. The G.A.A. Dance, held in May, honors all spring athletes and is the only formal dance open to all students in the school as well as the alumni.
