-ui OUR PRIN CIP L ln the last twenty years as principal of Southport High School Mr. C. C. Leedy has observed many changes and improvements. One of the greatest of these is the remarkable growth in population of Perry Township which has ne- cessitated a continuous building program to keep pace with our every growing needs in schools. As a conse- quence we have met that need by erecting some of the finest school faciilties in this area of the State of ln- diana. lncluded in these facilities are not only many new schools but Roosevelt Stadium and the new gym with a swimming pool. Another of his major accomplishments was secur- ing our admittance to the North Central Association. Always interested in the progress in the school and the betterment of the pupils is our principal . . . Mr. Leedy. GIRLS' DE BOYS' DEANS There is one very outstanding person, Miss Blanche Penrod, the Dean of Girls, who could not be left out of the memories of the students of Southport. Her chief duty as dean is counseling with the girls who need advice. She has helped many a girl over one of the great stepping stones during their scholastic life at S. H. S. Miss Penrod is very understanding and admired by all who come in contact with her at school. She is a very busy person around the school spon- soring the Medicii, Senior-ority, and the Sprocket Jockeys. She is also general chairman for the Christmas program and the Easter Sunrise Service. 22 Mr. Walter Kellam, a soft-spoken but enthusi- astic Dean of Boys, is a well-known man at S. H. S. He is well-fitted for his work as counselor of the boys and chairman of the Senior Guidance Committee. As chairman, he interviews students relative to their school work and eligibility for graduation. He heads our Girl's Pep Club, which has been recognized throughout the state and nation in the Teen Magazine. Mr. Roger Ratliff, our other Dean of Boys, has also become a familiar figure around the school in these past two years at Southport. Among his duties are taking care of attendance, counseling, and disciplining students. Mr. Ratliff heads the Boys' Cheer Block, which was originated last year. Everyone will agree that these two men have performed their duties excellently.
