Many of the student's talents are re- vealed in the Talent Show, sponsored by the G. A. A. under the guidance of Mrs. Lucille Miller. The students perform before the student body and P. T. A. The awards are presented to the students according to the decisions of the judges, composed of teachers and students. Last year Melvin Gaston and Janice Utterback captured first place with a piano duet, Mike Jackson placed second with a pantomime, and The Four Bermudas, a boy's quartet consisting of Doug Brown, Frank Williams, John Al- vord, and Dick Snyder, won third place. These four girls appearing in this picture sang Me and My Teddy Bear in the con- test. They are Rhonda Taylor, Janice Gra- ham, Beverly Bush, and Judy Bishop. Men have spoken for democracy for 5,000 years, says John Price, the winner of the Voice Of De- mocracy contest, which is sponsored by the Cham- lter of Commerce, The contestants wrote and presented their own speeches upon the advantages of a democracy. Tape recordings of the two winning speeches will be sent to the state contest. Shown here is Dr George Arndt, sponsor, pre- senting the awards to John Price, in first place, and Ed Folkening, the runner-up in the contest. A B Cs of Sewing was the theme for the fashion show this year, Through the courtesy of Mrs. Marjorie Smith and three of her Home Economics sewing classes the girls of Southport and their mothers were treated to a preview of year-round fashions, The past four years have been filled with en! joyment and satisfaction for these six talented girls. They are known throughout the area of Central lndlana as the Novelnotes. The group was organized in their freshman year under the direction of Mr. Schrnalfeldt. They soon lmegan singing for school dances, church or- oanizations, radio and television programs, and many other outside activities Recently the girls have had special arrangements of popular hits made especially for them, one of which gave them their third first in the state contest. Ready with a smile and a song are Peggy Cowden, Sondra Turner, Marilyn Kottlcamp, Ruth Ann Carnine, Cindy Orme, and Darlene Jackson. all around .fcllool Spurs, boots, and guns all contributed to the humor ot the entertainment at the annual Sweater Swirl. A record pantomime of the ex- periences ot Wyatt Earp was presented by five senior girls, Those who participated were: Deanna Heer- inga, Susan Kirtley, Patty Thomas, Martha Limbach, and Wilma Bockes. OEL . OEL . . One of the activities in which everyone participates is decorating the school for Christmas, Nancy Niederauer and Lonnie Beck are doing their part by painting a Christmas scene on the blackboard in room 26.
