,ar so 77 J Jffev' Deadline . . The rapid staccato sounds of keys of the typewriters which emerge from room six fore- tell that another deadline of the Perry News must be met. Because of the high quality of the Perry News, the paper was given a distribution ot the ROTO, a newspaper supplement published by the National Scholastic Press Association, Any sophomore or iunior with a B average in English may take journalism. A staff position is possible but unlikely with a C+ average in Beginning Journalism. At the printers the stories are typed on metal with a Iinotype machine. Each line is separately typed and place in the correct position. After this process the stories are then transferred to dummy sheets, which are then returned to the school. In the journalism classes the mistakes are corrected, and the sheets are forwarded to the printer so that they can be corrected on the machine. The duplicate set of dummy sheets is cut and placed on layout sheets which provide the editors with a general idea of the finished paper. The stories, having been sent to the printer, are placed in a layout pattern as they will appear in the paper.

Senior-ority Wouldn't you like to buy a can of mixed nuts? was a familiar refrain of the Senior-ority girls. ln order to be- come a member, each girl must pur- chase at least two cans which she has the privilege of selling. Included among the various activi- ties of the club are a Christmas party for the old folks in the Evangelistic Center and an evening meeting with the mothers of the girls as special guests. This year was a career confer- ence. Each year, in the Spring, the Juniors give a recognition banquet for Seniors, especially honoring the in- coming and out-going officers. The office holders this year were Peo Brown, president, Sue Utterback, Vice-president, Kathy Pavey, Secretary, Evelyn Sayers, Treasurer. Miss Penrorl always sponsors this organization. uietn The student librarians of Southport are under the direction of Mrs, Black and her assistant, Miss Marshall. Their duties are many and varied. Among them are indexing new books, issuing books, repairing old books, and caring for the surplus rentals. The staff is willing to help students find any inf formation they may need through pamphlets and other materials the li- brary has to offer. Educators In The Nlaking The purpose of the William Lowell Bryan Future Teachers' Club is to stimulate an interest in the teaching profession. Anyone interested in teach- ing may loin this club. As programs were planned this year to give the members an idea of the costs and requirements of various col- leges which they attended, The cadet teachers also spoke on their experi- ences In practice teaching. The sponsors of the club are Pro- fessor Davis of Indiana Central Col lege and Mrs. Jessie Copsey, head of the English Department. Gfflcers are: Peggy Smith, President, Mary Melick, Vice-president, Marilyn Kottkamp, Sec- retary, Darlene Jackson, Treasurer, and Mary Kay Williams, Program Chair- man, shown with Professor Davis.
