All predictions were fulfilled when the performers gave those in attendance a very enjoyable evening. Not only did the actors and actresses do a fine job, but those behind the scenes also deserve credit for a smooth, well-run show. First on the list is “Goldie”, for directing the production so successfully; then Mr. Miner and Mr. Wissemann for their help with the scenery. Our thanks also go to Mrs. Lindsay who helped us with the costuming. 19 CLASS Our first year in high school lived up to all our expectations. Class Resume of Class Activities The class of 61, with Mr. Staiger and Mr. Presby as advisors, began the year with the election of their class officers who led them through an active and successful program of activities. Loretta Foster was chosen President; Stuart Wood, Vice-President; Marjorie Poliwoda. Secretary; and Eileen Mahoney, Treasurer. This has been a busy year for the juniors. In January they received their class rings. They are the first class to have the standard school rings. “Moonlight Mist” was the romantic theme of the Junior Prom. Decorations were in white and varied shades of blue; the Aces provided the music. After much debate, the senior play, a comedy-mystery, was selected. In mid-summer, the class of ’61 will begin their magazine campaign. We wish them luck in the best of high school years. 28 Class of ’62 Resume of Class Activities The sophomores, under the guidance of Miss McCrosson and Mr. Clark, started their activities rolling with a money-making project. They baked Christmas cookies, totaling 3.000 in all. to sell to parents and friends. The spotlight project of the year was the Sadie Hawk in’s dance, “Sweet Nothin’s”. The dance is a girl-ask-boy affair and it seems the girls took advantage of this golden opportunity for the profits were very sizeable. Another money making project, a car wash, was held in May. For the first time the class rings have been ordered in the sophomore year and are expected in September. The class enjoyed a trip to Coney Island at the end of the year. The officers of the class of ’62 were: President, Barbara Larsen; Vice-President, Donald Foster; Secretary, Dorothy Klos; Treasurer, Robin Sternemann. SEATED—J. Donahue. S. Abrams M. Thompson. M. The year of 1959-1960 brought to a new hgh the level of achievement, participation and interest in girls’ sports here at Southold High. Westhampton played host to the girls for the annual field hockey playday. Though they got off to a jittery start! losing to Riverhead 1-0, the First Settlers rallied to win a game against Eastport 2-0 and to tie the games against Westhampton and East Hampton. The end of the strenuous day found the girls in a tie for second place, certainly quite an accomplishment for their third field-hockey playday. Early December found the team showing speed and spirit at the volleyball playday at Riverhead. Good coaching from Mrs. Rhodes, coupled with a fine determination to win, earned the girls a place in the play-offs. Basketball intramurals also were especia’ly popular. The basketball playday, which the girls were eagerlv awaiting, was called off because of the snowstorm. Knowing how anxious we were to compete, Mrs. Rhodes arranged for the Greenport and Mattituck teams to visit us. But we let her down and made a very poor showing. The fine May weather brought a large group out for baseball and archery. 52 Famous for Sea Foods, Steaks and Fine Food Since 1873 SPECIAL LUNCHES SERVED DINNER and A LA CARTE Upper Deck Dining Room Available for Parties of 50 - 60 Persons TELEPHONE GREENPORT 7-0627 COMPLIMENTS OF THE NORTH FORK BANK AND TRUST COMPANY OFFICES AT SOUTHOLD CUTCHOGUE MATTITUCK GREENPORT (MEMBER OF FEDERAL DEPOSIT INSURANCE CORP.)
