Latin Club HIS the ninth year of Latin Club has broueh wrth rt much emoyment for its members Much of its success IS due to the adviser Miss Dans and to the able staf'f of officers whlch were el cted 1n September The officers of the Senatores Latin Club are Consuls fPres1dentsJ Wrllram Albertson Margaret Jones Lrctor Walter Courtenay Quaest tor fTreasurerJ Jean Grattan Scrrbas 4Secretar IES, Margaret Beebe Nancy Tyler Parker Drck erson Cenatrrx Helen Goldsmith Thrs club has thrrty erght members The officers of the Plebs fLat1n IJ Club are Consuls Roger Grattan MarJor1e Beebe Lrctor John Moffat Quaestor Prrscllla Young Scrxbas CSecretar1esJ James Rlch Phyllis Horton Joan Newbold Cenatrlx Dorothy Young There are erghteen members ln th1s club In October the Senatores held a scavenger hunt The Lat1n I Club also had a scavenger hunt at this trme One fine morning rn December alarm clocks havrng been set the Senatores arose xery early and went on their annual serenadrng of the faculty French AST fall two French clubs were orgamzed wrth the help of the French teacher Mrss Haweelr The Senror French Club consrstrng f French II and III students elected the following as the1r officers presrdent Helen Goldsmith sec retary Margaret Grrgoms and treasurer Nancy Tyler The followrng officers were elected by the French I Club president Jean Grattan vice pres rdent Raymond Donahue secretary Margot Schmitt and treasurer Agnes Gadomskr These clubs were formed rn order that stu dents would understand and apprecrate better the Bachelor A YEAR ago last fall a group of fellows decided rt would be a n1ce thing to have some orgam zatlon rn vuhrch they might attempt to learn a few fundamentals rn th art of cookery Accordrngly the lnterested boys submrtted then- plans to the office vsrth Christmas carols Thls exent was termrnated by breakfast rn Teddys Sweete Shop Also rn December the Plebs had 1 Chrrstmrs party and evchanged grfts The Plebs made Latin Club song books rt the1r meetmgs Then IH March came the hrgh pomt of the years actlvrtles the Roman banquet complete wrth togas slaves and everyone recllnlng to eat Some of the Plebs were chosen to be slaves The consuls of the Plebs and two teachers were 1nv1ted to par take of the feast Between courses there w rs en tertarnment charades were acted out Vrrgrnra V111 played her accordran Vrncent Morrrs played the piano and a plano duet was played by Nancy Ty ler and Phyllis Horton On the twelfth and thirteenth of May the Plebs underwent the process of rnrtratron The succeeded rn the1r sole purpose of keepxng the Plebs rn mlsery th entire two days On the ex enrng of the second day the Plebs were formally recen ed 1nto the club Thus ended a very enjoyable year for ll concerned Cub French people and the1r language Also thls gave more opportunltres to play French games and srng French songs All meetmgs were conducted strlctly rn French as far as possible A hrghlrght of the Senror French Club was a supper party held on April 30 at whrch guests were 1nv1ted A feature of the French Club was the carrymg out of varrous proJects May 16 brought a big event the bus trrp to New York There the French Club xrsrted the Hayden Plane tarrum Central Park Zoo the Frlck Collectron and Modern Museum of Art where some French movles were shown and they ate rn a French res taurant Cub After study of th1s novel but practlcal rdea It was avreeably accepted The boys after much dellberatron decrded to chrrsten the newly form ed club Bachelor Club Bachelor Club' xx as to meet every Thursday and the weekly dues of ten cents were to be used m buying the cool-:mg materials From th1s tlme on the twenty five I , . 1 - . Omlcron Club HE Omlcron Club sponsored by Mrs Standish continued its meetings this school year It was decided that this year contrary to other years there would be two divisions in the club the Jun 1or Omlcron Club C0l'lSlSt1Ilg of members from the seventh and eighth grades and the Senior Om1cron Club for those members in high school At the first meeting at which both clubs were present the f011OWlHg officers were elected Senior Club-president Jean Dickinson v1ce president Margaret Grattan secretary Margaret Flynn V1rg1n1a Hunter vice pres1dent Barbara Wolfe secretary Madeleme Donahue The Clubs held several meetlngs throughout Camera EVEN though Camera Club was not reorgan1zed until this spring it has accomplished much The biggest Job was to take pictures which would be suitable for this years Snuff Box The adviser Mr Dart has been teachmg the students what to do and what not to do when developing a film and mak1ng prints Virginia Vall has been xery ef fic1ent in getting the members to take more and the year At these meetlngs the members worked on a quilt which was later given as a g1ft to Mrs Standish who resigned from the faculty in Febru ary Early in the year both clubs assisted at an assembly for the fathers and mothers of the mem bers Two plays and a skit were performed with various types of muslc during the 1nterm1ss1on The girls also displayed in a fashlon show the garments they had made durlng the year Follow mg the entertainment refreshments were served Before the last Mattituck vs Southold bas ketball game the girls had a supper ln the cafe terla and then attended the game at Mattxtuck Cub better snap shots The members of Camera Club are Parker Dlckerson Helen Goldsmith Halsey Goldsmlth Robert Pr1ce James Sarno George Komskls Dor othy Grattan V1rg1n1a Vail Charles Walker John Moffat Katie Gradowskl Margaret Thompson Jessle Orlowskl Jane Orlowskl Stella Kaloskn Mr Dart Junior Glover Edward Purcell Teddy Bucci Albert Dickerson and Margaret Beebe twenty seven t l I 4 T ' , - ' y .
