Bonny Brooks, Joyce Blaine, Crown Bearer Jeffrey Keefer HOMECOMING 68', On a beautiful, sunny October 12 Southmoreland's third annual Homecoming festivities commenced at noon with the Homecoming Parade. Leading the parade was a float, assembled by the Student Council, carrying Queen Gerrie and her court, namely, Fran Zearley, Becky Sager, Joyce Blaine, Colette Ferguson, Bonny Brooks and Donna Snyder. Various other organizations had floats in the parade. Music was provided by the Southmoreland High School Marching band and cheerleaders, majorettes, colorguard andflag twirlers cavorted through the streets of downtown Scottdale. At two o'clock the Southmoreland Scotties hosted the Beth Center Bulldogs and won the game, adding more perfection to the day. During Half-time the Scottie co-captains Jerry Schomer and Dave Lewandoski crowned Gerrie and officially presented her as the Homecoming Queen of 1968. ,I Following the crowning a reception was held in the gym for the queen and her court which was attended by parents, classmates, and alumni. Culminating the activities was the Homecoming dance with the curtain falling on Homecoming 1968 at 11:30 P.lVl. fl ' I' c y P-en, , 'l1K - I ' A -vm 1: 3 ,Y , . f in uf S 3 A I V' - - J.. N . Neither can they know the time, effort, and patience required to build a book. We hope that someday our work will serve as a refresher of these memories of 1969. We wish to express our thanks to Mr. Stimmel, our faculty advisor, Mrs. Gray and Mr. Hernly, our photographers and to those of the staff who helped make this book possible. Davis Hi-Y The Hi-Y club of Southmoreland builds its functions around one main purpose: to create, maintain and ex- tend throughout the school, home and community high standards of Christian character. The club is a Y.M.C.A. for high school boys. Mem- bers join the club seeking friendship, adventure, recreation and inspiration. It is the responsibility of the adult adviser to help members select goals for positive personal and group liv- ing. The members try to make their goals realistic, and at the same time, in harmony with the national Hi-Y purpose. Through their code of ethics J and constitution the club operates on a four-plank platform-clean speech, clean sportsmanship, clean scholar- ship, and clean living. Leo Club The Leo Club is the unior service organization of the Scottdale and East Huntingdon Township Lions Club. The main purpose of the club is to serve the local high school by cooperating with the administration and faculty in the development of students for leadership, scholastic achievement, individual responsibility, honesty and respect for others. The club also serves the community by respecting the needs and welfare of others and unites its membership in friendship, fellowship and mutual understanding. Since the clubis organization in 1964, it has provided many services to the school and community. The most outstanding of these is the spon- sorship of a sophomore trophy given to the tenth grade student with the highest academic standing. The or- ganization also maintains a pop cooler in the lunch room for the students. By keeping with the ideals of leader- ship, equality and opportunity, the Leo Club is an asset to our school system. . FRONT ROW: B. Myers, D. Kelly, T. Yoder, J. McBride, R. Farrell, G.
