The Social Studies department includes eight courses. Freshmen may take Civics, a study of the community and Citizenship, or Ancient History. The latter helps students to get a better understanding of ancient and medieval times in preparation for Modern History. Students who study Economic Geography, a sophomore course, learn about the land and people of the earth. World History, another sophomore course, gives students a better understanding of other races and nations as well as their views and actions. The third tenth year course is Modern History. Students in this course study the major political and economical developments of the past four hundred years. All students must take U. S. History in their Junior year. This course is designed to give the student an under- standing and appreciation of the American way of life. The two fourth year courses are Problems of American Democracy and Sociology. These courses instill a respect and appreciation for our way of life and make the student aware of existing social problems. Sociology is a new course this year and is much like the introduc- tory course offered in college. arf if-J gf.-.Q-, ,V f 'sixxqkqiffl . 1 l Wea ff J n Q3 , , , mix vt. ,rdf D 1, J L f , 1Q', f' I f.
