junior Year Upper Classmen September: 1955-1954 Zukie, Pres., Yogi, Veepg Ann, Steno., and Selah, Money Holder were elected as our class officers with Miss Shorey as our new class advisor. October: Student Council held its first session. With Fran, Babs Ray, Skitch, Smith and Lachlet representing the junior Class. Rachel became assistant editor of The Emblem. November: As football season ended Jerry and Joe were elected '54 co-captains. December: Mistletoe Magic was the theme for our Junior Prom with the heavenly music of Sonny Pappalardo. January: Thorpe, Florian, Nardi added greatly to the success of the '54 basketball team. February: joe and Ann were the ones to represent our class at the Valentine Dance as pages. March: With the success of last year's- Magazine Drive lingering in our minds we became over confident and placed third. We still received 3550 for reaching quota. April: junior Minstrel, the first variety show of its kind at S.H.S. With no one ever forgetting Skitch, Donnie, Zukie, Finnie, Terry, Woodsie and Bob as the hilarious endmen. May: The lucky brains who were admitted to the Honor Society were: Gretchen, Mary Ellen, Dot, Mary Ann, Marie, Ann, Rachel, joan, Lombardo, LePage, Lachelt and they really deserved it. Barb and Selah were chosen co-captains of cheerleaders. Dot, Gret, Gail, Mitch, Landino, and Smedberg were honored by being chosen to compete in the junior Recital. June: Fran, Ann, Skitch, and Zukie were chosen to spend one glorious week as repre- sentatives to Girls' and to Boys' State on the campus of U-Conn. Senior Year Big Wheelsv September: 1954-1955 Zukie, Pres., Yogi, Veepg Ann, Steno, and jimmy, Money Holder felt very proud to be the ones to lead us through our last year. Seniors creamed Frosh after football team creamed East Haven. October: Rosemarie, Joyce, Finnie, Smith, Perry and Skitch CPres.D were elected to Student Council. Betty Ann and Mitch had the headache of putting the Chronicle together but we know they felt honored to do it. November: The seniors: Co-captains Llodra and Clements, Perry, Kirkland, Palmieri, Lachelt, Barry, Flynn, Ursone, Thorpe, Lombardo, Terry, and Zakrewski led the gridiron to an undefeated season who became State Champs. Three out of this history making team, Joe, Ray and Jerry made All-State. December: Finnie Ccaptainb Eddie, Bernie, and Ray led the basketball team to a highly suc- cessful season. January: Rachel, a deserving member of our class, worthy of the honor, received the D.A.R. Citizenship award which was based on xrvice, scholarship, and character. February: There proved to be dramatic talent in our class when the Senior Play was pre- sented. Woodsie, Skitch, Fran, Terry, Gret, Gail, Bobbie, Dot, Mitch, Joe, Margie, and Al displayed this talent in Come Out of Your Coma. Miss Shorey and Mr. Matheson directed the whole affair and without them it could never had been done. Dot and Mitch reigned as King and Queen at the annual Valentine Dance. And what a gay reign they had. March: ' With everyone doing their part in the Magazine Drive the senior class did quite well. f April: Rachel, Ann, Dot, and Gret preside as oflicers of the National Honor Society. May: Soft lights and decorations at the Senior Prom proved a romantic atmosphere that added to our treasury of memories. June: We held our Class Night at the Waverly and after this came Graduation. Although we were glad to graduate we did not like or think that all the fun of high school was now behind us.

.' ' 5-5 .-.,j.iTf7 S 1- -rdv.,.L CLASS CALENDAR Freshman Year Babies of S.H.S September: 1951-1952 The Class of '55 held its first high school election. Results were as follows: Beansie, Pres., Bronco, Veep, Elvira, Steno, Ann, Money Holder. Mary Ellen reports all news to Emblem. Mr. Gale, as advisor, led us through our first year. October: We attended our first dance at S.H.S., the Freshman Welcome Dance. And boy, what a welcome we got, one we will never forget. November: At our Hrst Thanksgiving football game our Frosh players might not have been stats, but we remember Bender, Clements, Barry, Llodra, Terry, Binkowski. Incidently, the game was won 27-6. December: Florian, Llodra, johnson, Ingriselli, and Palmieri brought honor to our class by rallying points on the basketball jayvees. January: We gave our first gala affair. It was a dance called Snowball with Tony Ioril1o's Orchestra. It was a big success and we netted 3560 profit. February: Senior Valentineis Dance. Fran and.Skitch CYogi?J were the two lucky kids chosen as our class pages. March: We came in last in the Magazine Drive -- our motto: If at first you don't suc- ceed, try and try againf' April: y We then saw Terry, Llodra, Salzillo, Moore, Doran, Simone, Flynn, Klopfenstein, Ursone, and Lachelt clad in shorts and tee shirts getting in shape for track. Ma : Y Zukie, Coppola, Barry, Lombardo, Thorpe, Smulski, Ingriselli, Palmieri, Bureau, Le- Page, Binkowski, and Daly favored the baseball team with their presence., June: We then realized that we were two months away from being Sophomores. Sophomore Year Sophisticates of S.H.S. September: 1952-1953 r Promptly we elected our officers with Zukie emerging as Pres.: Fran, Veepg El- vira, Steno, Ann, Money Holder. Zukie it seems was out numbered. October: Yogi, Lachelt, Fran, and Smith will govern our Soph. Class as members of the Student Council. November: There seemed to be singing talent in our class, for Mitch and Martin joined the Minstrels and added much to the group. December: With bop setting a new pace w-e put on a Soph Bop Hop with a dance contest won by two real cool cats. january: We found the departure of Elvira and Alex two of our very good friends. This brought an opening for class steno which Mary Ellen was elected to fill. February: At the annual Valentine Dance, Skitch and Babs Ray represented our class as pages. March: We gained S5200 for our class treasury by winning the Magazine Drive. Ann brought more glory to our class by becoming the top salesman in the school. April: The Student News, the first newspaper of its kind in S.H.S., was born. It without doubt, brought fame to out class. May: We now had official morale boosters in our class. Barbara O., Bobbie W., Barb K., Selah, and Ann donned the S.H.S. cheerleaders uniform. june: With the end of our sophomore year we lost the wonderful guidance of our ad- visor Mr. Gale. 28

Seeing that you like music so, We leave to you this tuner to blow. Because in English you are so able, To you we leave this thrilling fable. To Miss Bristol, to protect herself, We leave a pistol on the shelf. We leave to you a book of passes, To give to all of next year's classes. To make up for those troublesome girls, We leave to you this string of pearls. We leave to you this modern farm, To keep up your agricultural charm. Since our class was such a pip, To you we give this mighty whip. To you who play the piano so neat, We leave this music sheet. Because of your 'English position, We give to you this composition. To you who greet us with a smile, We hope that this will prove worth while. Here's a tie for you to chew, While next year's team worries you. Here's a bright and shiny star, To show our thanks, Mr. Farr. In the school office you work so hard, We leave to you this thank you card. Working with wood seems natural to you, So to keep boards together we give you a screw. Since you are new on our teaching staff, We leave to you a can of Half and Half. 30
