S eptember 1949 - June 1950 Characters ....,. i.i.i..,....,,....................., F reshmen SCENE I The Very Beginning Our first day of school as Freshmen. We walked up the hill and entered Lewis High School to begin high school life. SCENE Il Election of Officers The class of '53 assembled for the first time to elect class officers. Joseph DePaolo was chosen presi- dent, Michael Mauro, vice president, William Barbier, secretary, and Philip Pomposi, treasurer. Jean Mast- rianni was voted freshman editor of the Emblem. ' SCENE III Welcome Half-Pints Initiation into high school life. Even though we were treated like Freshmen, a good time was had by all. SCENE IV Self-Government Joseph Bruno, Joseph DePaolo, Dale Gemmal and Joyce Laribee were chosen as our representatives in the Student Council. SCENE V How About That Curly? I The class was unsuccessful in its first magazine drive. However, Joanne Carpentieri restored our honor by winning the portable television set. SCENE VI Freshmen Champions Remember that great football team of '49? The Freshmen players might not have been stars, but we remember Dave Callahan, Harris Crandall, Dale Gem- mal, Rog Hubeny, Herman Norton, Rich Patz, George Weaver, and Charles Wendt. ' SCENE V11 Summer Is Just Around The Corner Exams are over, worries are through, and we are no longer Freshmen. ACT II Setting . ...,..,.,........,... Southington High Time ........,,.. f ..... September 1950 - June 1951 Characters ....... ,...,,...,.........,.......,... S ophomores SCENE I The Southington High School Everything in a beautiful new high school was strange to us, but as the days went by we became accustomed to our new surroundings and settled down to life as Sophomores. SCENE II Sophomore Leaders The class of '53 chose Joseph DePaolo as presi- dent, Joseph Bruno, vice president, Sally Folcik, sec- retaryg and David Morse, treasurer. Charlotte Brod- owy was Emblem Reporter. ' SCENE III Sophomore Musical Geniuses The Sophomores had two representatives in the Minstrels. The talent of Joyce Laribee and Drusilla Tanner added much to the group. SCENE IV Government of the Student, by the Students and for the Students Sophomore members of the Student Council were Hank Brooks, Joseph Bruno, Joseph DePaolo, Joyce Laribee, Richard Patz, and John Simone. SCENE V Our First Gala Affair The Class of ,53 decided to sponsor a dance. In December we decorated the gym with mistletoe and sponsored The Mistletoe Hop. SCENE VI Extra Activities , - Sophomores participated in various activities, among them Pep Club, Bowling Club, Majorettes, Latin Club, and Projectionists. Many Sophomore boys participated in sports and did a fine job. We were still not successful in our attempt to win first place in the Magazine Drive.
