I hear its mournful murmurs, and its cries of gross despair, It seeks incessant, coast to coast, searching everywhere. The country begs for help, her burdens, see them swell? She pleads for youthful toil to guard the freedom bell. We of Southington High Schol, the class of '5 5, Take honor as our by-law, our creed is victory, Green and silver our colors, knowledge is our goal, We will not fear the future, God guides our valiant fold. We walked up the hill and entered Lewis High School to begin high school life. SCENE Il Election of Officers The class of '53 assembled for the first time to elect class officers. Joseph DePaolo was chosen presi- dent, Michael Mauro, vice president, William Barbier, secretary, and Philip Pomposi, treasurer. Jean Mast- rianni was voted freshman editor of the Emblem. ' SCENE III Welcome Half-Pints Initiation into high school life. Even though we were treated like Freshmen, a good time was had by all. Lois Butler was Junior Class Reporter. SCENE IV Winter Carnival We held our Junior Prom on December 8. The committees worked hard and as a result our prom was a success. The heavenly music of Charlie Don- nelly's Orchestra added to the charm of the evening. SCENE V Best Team Yet The '52 Basketball Team had a successful season which was climaxed by a tournament berth. FOOTBALL Once again the Blue Knights had a successful season, winning four and losing only to East Haven and Darien. We defeated our new rival Woodrow Wilson by the score of 13-O. The co-captains of this years squad were Roger Hubeny and Richard Patz. Other seniors on the squad included Hank Brooks, Geno Cellela, Joe Abata, john Reisch, john Simone, Kevin Tangney, David Florian, and George Weaver. Lead by Captain joe DePaolo, they out- classed their various opponents and finished the sea- son second only to East Haven in Class B. The Knights defeated Newington in the C.I.A.C. Tournament quarter-finals by a score of 66-54, but went down in defeat before Lyman Hall in the semi- finals by a score of 52-55. xg.
