To meet with the rapid advances of the various fields of medicine, the Health Careers Club strove to meet the challenge by investigating and discussing the various available careers. The discussions were accompanied by films and guest speakers, among them the school nurse, Mrs. Ester Markham, who spoke on the history of nursing. One of the most interesting programs was presented by the student nurses from Lenoir Memorial Hospital including graduates from Southern Wayne. 75

Special Education students, under the direction of Mrs. Phyllis Grant, showed their creativity through the various handicrafts they made this year. During the Christmas season, they sold colorful decorations which they made from IBM cards. They also held an auction sale at which they sold other articles that they had made.
