Future business leaders of tomorrow get their starts while still in high school through Distributive Education Clubs of America. The members promoted their interest in distribution through an exhibit at the Wayne County Fair, a float for the Goldsboro and Mount Olive Christmas parades, and an evaluation of retail sales personnel in Mount Olive. The club secured first place for the best non-professional float in the Goldsboro Christmas parade, and was the first place winner of the District Creative Marketing Award. 72

The Future Business Leaders of America had a busy year as students learned first-hand how business life really is. The members published the Student Directory, attended the FBLA Convention in Durham, distributed fruit baskets to the elderly, and went Christmas caroling at rest homes in Goldsboro. Participants in the Distributive Education program at Southern Wayne received practical instruction in job training in the classes of Mr. Terry McPherson. Supplementing these courses which took place every morning was the actual experience those members gained by holding jobs in the community. They discovered that this experience would later become increasingly important in attaining and maintaining future jobs. 73
