The Modern Music Masters are honorary students enrolled in the music department of Southern Wayne. They must excel in both music and academic subjects. The club furthers music appreciation in the school and community. Members enjoyed various types of musical entertainment throughout the year. Equally enjoyable was the lecture on the music at Cherry Hospital. The Math Club is designed to further interest in mathematics and to reveal career opportunities in the field of math. Projects of this year ' s group included making bulletin boards for the Math Club advisors and devising multiplication tables for the special education students. They also made a polar graph for the math department. Student teachers at Southern Wayne lectured to the group on math courses in college. Concerts at Christmas and in the spring were only a part of the full job of the Music Department. Under the leadership of two new directors, Mrs. Vera Powell and Mr. Edward Mason, the programs ranged from modern music to jazz. Those who participated discovered that plenty of practice accompanies a good performance. 67
