Sponsored by Mrs. Doris Gurley and Miss Eva Nan Summerlin, the Quill and Scroll is an honorary organization for high school journalists. This year, the main project of the society was the broadcasting of a I weekly radio program on station WDJS in Mount Olive. The highlight of the year was the annual spring banquet. The speech by Mr. Eugene Price, Managing Editor of the Goldsboro News-Argus, was entertaining and enjoyed by all. Bright lights on Broadway fascinated sixteen of the Southern Wayne journalism students as they made their way through the crowded streets of New York City. Many rode the subways for the first time traveling to and from their classes at Columbia University. Before and after classes, the students attended such events as an all-daV tour of the city, a Broadway play, the NIT at Madison Square Garden, and the Easter program at Radio City Music Hall. The conference ended with a Luncheon at the exquisite Waldorf-Astoria. 62

The student replies cautiously, Forty-six? Correct! The teacher heartily approves. For the first time in three years of geometry He has answered one right! Next door the human adding machines are busily at work. Across the hall the class is in a heated argument over what x is. Here in the Math Department students are acquiring knowledge which will greatly aid them in the future.
