Scientific interest, developed and promoted through active participation, was the goal of the Science Club. The club sponsored the largest Science Fair in the history of Southern Wayne. Over three hundred projects were displayed. Winners went to the District Science Fair at East Carolina University. The Science Department took pride in presenting advanced material that would be profound in some colleges. Devoted instructors stimulated the students to find pleasure through curiosity and confusion. Courses such as QPS, physical science, biology, chemistry, physics, and advanced biology which was offered for the first time, were all based largely upon laboratory work. This made concepts more important to the individual. 140
