FOREWORD School is more than the hum-drum of daily classes and last-minute cramming for tests and exams. To en¬ joy the special values of student life, a great deal of disciplined time and sincere effort must be devoted by the student. Quite often, the student thinks of school from the academic standpoint only. However, while growing academically, the well-rounded student is also developing socially, culturally, and physically - all in one process. By separating the four areas, the full value of school life is lessened. The academic role that is portrayed by the student is of prime value in determining his success now and in the future. Reports, homework, teachers, and class participation aid the student in learning to grasp ideas and to formulate those of his own. Through the pro¬ cess of studying, the student experiences an art often misinterpreted — the art of learning. The student matures socially through his everyday encounters with teachers and friends. Organized social events such as ballgames, dances, and club activities are provided by the school to promote social growth. By growing culturally, the student is able to ex¬ perience the real beauty to be found in life. Even if a well-rounded cultural background is not gained from home, the school supplies this by surrounding the stu¬ dent with classical works of art in literature, music, and paintings. To remain healthy, one must participate in activi¬ ties which not only provide enjoyment but are also beneficial for keeping the body in shape. Taking part in sports activities and physical education classes, along with trying to outrun the tardy bell keep the student physically fit. Developing one’s life is the essence of school. To remain unconcerned and let the world go by, or to be¬ come involved and really live — academically, socially, culturally, and physically - which will it be?
