DELTA SIGMA THETA At the inception of Delta Sigma Theta in 1973 at Hovard University, the twenty-two foun- ders envisioned an organization of college women pledged to serious endeavor and community service. Their ideals of scholar- ship and service have withstood the test of time, and today Delta Sigma Theta is a public service sorority, dedicated to a program of sharing membership skills and organizational service in public interest. 328

As members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Charles Robert and Samuel Taylor spoke to a young lady, Arizona Clevor, concerning the estab- lishment of a sister organization at the Uni- versity. The young ladies willingly accepted the task and immediately began to work upon it. Thus, as a result, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority was founded as a sister organization to Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.
