The Pontchatrain Physical-Recre- ation Society was originally organ- ized in 1959. The purposes of this organization are: to help members gain knowledge and understanding of the values of recreational activ- ities; to encourage and support all regulations related to safety; to pro- vide recreational activities; to act as an outlet for wholesome use of leisure time; to teach members to appreciate activity; to teach basic skills and competencies. The Sociology Club was organ- ized on September 30, 1963, under the sponsorship of Dr. Carter. The club was organized for the purpose of having its members put in effect the practical aspects of various so- ciological theories. The club,s calendar of activities includes such programs as aid to orphans, socially and financially; debates, lectures, field trips, and numerous academic and social activ- ities. The ultimate goal of the Art Club Of Southern University in New Or- leans is the promoting of culture through the Arts. We position our- selves the same as the modern artist in seeking to elevate students through art drives and to explore the possibilities of discovering new beauty. This means strife and often frustration, but also joy and release from tension. We also believe that creativity is the only road to suc- cess and that creativity in any field reconciles man with his fate and gives him a sense of dignity.
