Ehglish Club The English Club of Southern University in New Orleans was or- ganized in the Spring of 1960 un- der the guidance of Dr. T. R. Love, Chairman of the English Depart- ment, and Mrs. C. B. Moore. The club is composed of English majors and minors, and other interested students. The purposes of the English club are to encourage scholarship, rec- reational reading, reading from a critical point of view from authors of all periods, and to discover job opportunities for English majors. Hyporchemcx Dancers The Hyporchema Dancers were originally organized in 1963 with 12 girls. ' The purpose of the group is to derive skill, grace, poise, and pleas- ure. Newman Club The Newman Club was orig- inally organized during the 19th century by Cardinal Newman at Ox- ford University. He established such an organization in order to create higher religious education on secu- lar university campuses throughout the world. The Newman Club of S.U.N.0. has been in effect since the estab- lishment of the university in 1959. Red Cross College Board The Red Cross College Board is composed of six students from each New Orleans University. The pur- pose of the organization is to pro- mote Red Cross relations through- out each university. The other par- ticipating universities are Domini- can, Tulane, Xavier, L.S.U.N.O., and Leyola. SUNO Little Theater The SUNO Little Theatre is an organization which cultivates inter- est in dramatics by helping students acquire the skills necessary to ap- preciate what goes into the making of a good play through the art of acting, directing, and staging the play; awaken a wide and intelli- gent interest in the theatre; present dramatic presentations; develop cre- ativity and improve seIf-expression. It is an organization for those per- soris who are in good standing with the University and exhibit the abil- ity to cooperate, willingness to work hard, and acceptance of construc- tive criticism.
