The Dormitories— Home Away From Home Learning to adjust to being away from home is difficult for most students. Going away to college is more than just being “On Your Own.” Going away to college means meeting strange new people, learn- ing to compromise, having valuable experiences and friendship. Living in the dorms is an experience in itself. Southern Tech has two air-conditioned dormitories which provide a home for more than 400 students each quarter. Each room is usually occupied by two students and provides a conve- nient home on campus. Learning to adjust to this new lifestyle is sometimes difficult. Although Steve Holtz and Terri Carruth do as much as they can to help each and every student, they cannot because they are only two people. Therefore, they are assisted by a staff of resident assistants (RA’s). These resident assistants have been carefully picked from many students which applied and were chosen be- cause of their individual talents and ability to get the job done. The residents know that they can go to any RA at any time to discuss any problems that may troubling them at that moment. The RA’s, are living “big brothers and big sisters” that want to make this “Moving UP” transition as smooth as possible.
