E DITOR JOHN WHEELER . . BUSINESS MANAGER FOREWORD The years of preparing for the future have been years filled with many wonderful memories. Realizing our goals, we have set out to prepare ourselves for tomorrow's tasks. It is our hope to meet this challenge as we move forward to begin the real adventure of life. We have become a part of all that we have seen, heard, and met here at Southern Pilgrim College. The PINE BURR visualizes a meaning of each expciience and treasured moment that we have shared together. As we reminisce, may this volume be a lasting reminder of the noble qualities our school represents and a source of enjoyment through the years. DEDICATION During the years from 1948-1960, the col- lege pastor served Southern Pilgrim College faithfully. He was a patient counselor and sympathetic friend to each student. Dedicated to the school, he became a vital part of it. His faith in the school inspired and challenged the students. He has been a member of the Board of Directors for twelve years. It is with deep admiration and affection thatwe, the students of 1961-62, dedicate the PINE BURR to Rev. Wray J. Smith, one who by precept and example has taught us to follow and serve the Christ he loves. REV. WRAY J. SMITH 9 fl VUOHUJDPWJ 24 guage.: V-lr 1 We are living in perhaps the most critical era of man's history, a time of rapid change, and, hence, a time of great crises. These crises have to do not only with international politics, but also with religion. It is important that you, the Christian youth of today, and, if Jesus tarries, the church leaders and homemakers of tomorrow, be not swept into this dangerous whirlwind and carried awayfrom the sacred landmarks of holiness and piety in heart and life. My desire for and exhortation to you finds expression in St. Paul's letter to Timothy: This charge I commit unto thee. . . that thou. . . mightest war a good warfare, holding faith, and a good conscience, which some have put away concerning faith have made shipwreck. Proverbs 3:6 The secret of assurance comes to all who have acknowledged the Lord God in all their ways, for He then directs their paths. When God holds the maps and tells us what turns to make, we cannot get lost. This is positive living. When He is per- mitted to direct our paths, indecision is gone forever. A God-directed life is remarkably free from error and disappointment. He has promised to guide us with His eye. Our Heavenly Father knows the end from the beginning. Led by Him I cannot stray, Trusting Him I cannot fall. Held by Him, I'm safe alway. Loved by Him, He hears each call. Gordon E.
