They were so faultless that none need be afraid to follow in them. Many others have walked life's road and have left their footprints in the way, but they are full of error. Christ walked a sinless way and is the world's great example and pattern. Looking at Christ as his leader and example, one finds that He came for a purpose--to make a way of salvation for every individual believing in Him. Even though it took Him through trial, Calvary, and death, yet He. fulfilled His purpose and that of His Father. No human being is born into the world without a purpose. God hasaplan for every life, whether it be in the doing of an applauded feat off living awquiet Christian life before others. Ifone is to followJesus, he will find that the way lies through Gethsemane, through the city gate, and outside the camp. The way may lie along a lonely path and perhaps until there is no trace of a footstep left, only the voice, Follow Me. ln all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 2 wgpw Wie if WW' Jwwufmf J X I Q60 Mujy,-off' ,,,,,... .Jf QM .! .G+ Ma AuWf'jj,p0wffd' WLWQWMWWWW fw 1f'w',Aw4-ff'f'ZlMMf' fluff 0fM'ff:,,4Livff f' ' . M-W fx szzf bf :ff , Wig GUIDING CDUR STEPS Not many experiences in life are more baffling to the Christian than to be faced with a perplexing problem and to be unable to find clear assurance as to what God's leading is. Life is complex, and sometimes helpl is greatly needed. Disturbed days and sleepless nights are experienced sometimes in the process of trying to discover God's will, but for the sincere listening Christian the revelation will surely come. First of all let us face the fact that God does not reveal His plans for all His children in precisely the same way, whether it be sacred or secular work, permanent ortemporary. So let not wbe dismayed if the signs direct- ing us are not exactly the same as someone else has found and followed, for God deals with people individually. Possibly the most perplexed person is thet young man or woman em - barking on plans for careers. The night career for the Christian is of im- portance, for the wrong education or the wrong start inbusiness or the professions may entail great Aloss in time, money, and courage. If a person is planning to take a long, important journey, he will study road maps carefully, enlist the aid of widely-traveled friends, consult travel bureaus and so forth: for he will profit by the experience of those who have studied and been the way before. How necessary, therefore, that in the spiritual realm we should seek guidance of the Great Leader who knows ,M N the pitfalls, hazards, and also the strengths and weaknesses of those making journeys. it We need p to remember that guidance is not something which is accom- plished once and all. The Lord's leading is not limited to times of crisis of emergency, such as might occur only two or three times in a life- time. Divine guidance is a daily need and as important as food. i Gordon E. DIRECTING OUR PATHS In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3: 6 The word path, as referred to in the text, speaks of a course of life. On life's journey there are many paths that one may choose, but there is only one that affords true happiness and finally leads to a glorious destination. This path has been prepared by God and is in reach of every one who will follow Him. In order to find this path, it is necessary not only to have a general belief in Christ as Saviour, but also to commit our will completely to Him who marked out the Way. It is He who has promised to lead us in the way of life everlasting. Southern Pilgrim College is dedicated to the tasklof guiding young people in securing a good education, but the main emphasis is acquainting them with the spiritual forces which are vital to life here and hereafter. Best wishes and prayers for Southern Pilgrim College and especially for the Graduates of 1961! Wray J. Smith, Pastor of College Church 8 I96O-I96I COLLEGE BOARD OF DIRECTORS Dr. W. L. PRINTS OF PROGRESS Use thy youth so that thou amayest have comfort to remember it when it hath forsaken thee, and not sigh and grieve at the account thereof. Use it as the springtime which soon departeth, and wherein thou oughtest to plant and sow all provisions for a long and happy life. Sir W. Raleigh. p An education is not obtained simply through the medium of books and lectures. As young people prepare for the many areas of Christian service, it is essential thatthey have experience in a number of activities and be pre- pared to help different types of people. The activities at S.P.C. are so arrangedthat one may receive this type of training which is so vital in form- ing a well-balanced character. The Ministerial Association is preparedto send a speaker and a musical group to church andjail services or wherever some servfice may be rendered. The A cappella Choir, providing a musical outlet for many of the students, travels during the second semester. From the choir are formed the smaller groups of sextets, trios, and quartets. From the Student Council has been organized the Alethea Club, which studies the tactics and progress of Communism. The Science Club is for those who are especially interested in scientific endeavor. The Beta Club is to recognize those who have ex-. celled in scholarship. All those who attend S.P.C. have the privilege of the many experiences which deepenthe Christian life and usually are not received outside of Bible School. 57 A srums T co M. The immediate surroundings of pine and hardwood groves make a delightful and pictures- que setting. The grass-covered circle is partially surrounded by the school buildings. This year has witnessed a high light in the history of S.P.C. It has beerhga thnill to see the new ny!! W W? administration building inthe process of con - struction. The new building will provide us with a new library, chapel, offices, laboratory, and class FOOIIIS. f' ' j These many material things in which we have lived and worked will leave lasting impressions on each onellof the students. New pictures have been painted in the halls of memory and will be reviewed from time to time. 77 . 5 I I .11 A, I 2 , 4, ,X ' QE, . . . . -5 1, Ja! Xl f ' ' 6 f' , N -V Q ,I -' ' ' I - f I. f .' The school year of 1960- 61 is history, and the students find themselves looking in two directions: looking back over the year of hard studies, Christian fellowship, and spiritual growth and looking ahead into the unknown? future with keen anticipation of the plan of God being worked out in their lives. Some are going out to be pastors, others to further their education in other fields, and still others will be back for the year of 1961-62.
