A WEEK END HAPPENING for the Collegiate Quartet and Rev. Curtis Sm th is the loading of the college car to go 'lo another service. THE EDUCATIONAL ZONE f BNC consists of many miles for Rev. Curtis Smith sslsiant io the president, to travel. As mediator between the college and the educational zone, the assistant to the president has many responsibilities. For the past nine years, Reverend Curtis Smith has held this responsible position on the campus of Bethany Nazarene College. Until this year the title of his position was director of public relations. A graduate of BNC, Rev. Smith exemplifies Christ in every phase of his life. Since his coming to the campus in 1952, he has spent most of his time touring the zone, presenting the needs of the college. Many of the improvements and the construction of new buildings on the campus can be contributed to the efforts of Rev. Smith. His sense of humor, winning personality, and enthusiastic service to the college marks Curt, as most students know him, as one of the favorite members of the administration. In recognition and appreciation of his able and devoted service, we, the 1961 Arrow staff, dedicate this publication to . . . CURTIS SMITH

0'-wma! Eonsuago beneath the silent surface of the earth, a miracle occurred. Unlovely black carbon was changed into the most beautiful and treasured precious stone man has ever known. The diamond was not always beautiful. Look at one as its shimmering facets delicately reflect light rays and burst into a thousand tiny prisms of color. It cost that diamond a great price to become a jewel. It was subjected first to long hours of cutting and polishing. But the diamond is processed only in the hands of a master craftsman. So we, like raw stones, must be subjected to the refining processes of life and education. Here in all phases of our college life we have felt the cutting necessary to remove the rough spots from our characters, from our personalities. We have felt the polishing which smoothed our relationship with God and our fellowman. After college we will be ready to take up our work in life as gems. Some of us will be great and shine like rare jewels. But, as with the many diamonds that are used industrially, the most of us will 'go out to spend our lives in service. And in what more noble way could we exhibit what we have gained from our education--intellectually, socially, and spiritually-than to reflect in the daily routines of life the sunlight from the Master's face? Al-ma Ma-ter, Al-ma Ma-ter, Hail all Hail to thee. Red and White stand for the light Of Dear old BNC.
