. ' e rl . k5k'. A Of all the people at SMU, few are probably as in tune with what is truly going on as Vifilly, the barber at the student center. I-Ie has been active in the community for the past eighteen years -- twelvepitofiwhich have been spent in the epicenter of glocated across from the cafeteria,,,Wi1ly is the students, faculty, employees of the university, and members of the community. He has seen the school change, reverse and transform. He feels he has a fairly good sense of what takes place. When asked what the first word that came to mind when I said SMU was, he said education. Willy has seen a lot of successful people get their start at SMU. He finds that few people ever com- plain and that the campus is generally optimistic and feels that the diversity of the campus is a very good thing, especially for the future. I asked Willy why he thought he was so popular, and why so many were loyal to him, to which he modestly repliecl,f'1I give a good haircut, I guess. A few customerslhgrppened to be present and commented that he good haircut, but more than that, he is a good listener, a profes- sional, and a very likable person. Wihy said he often got wind of events prior to their occur- rence, but when I said he should have a gossip col- umn in the Daily Campus, he just laughed. His humility is refreshing, his knowledge is vast, and his ability to strike up a conversationjfriendship with all who sir in his chair have made him one of the better institutions on campus.
