t Xx DMINISTRATIG 'lihe universal challenge faced hy the l'niversity's admin- istrators this year was one of limited space and the grow- ing nunihers ot' students and faculty occupying it. Over tlltltt students registered each semester. which is an indi- cation that 5Nll' is one of the few private schools in the nation ishich has maintained its strong enrollment position despite .1 decreased hirth-rate and increased education costs. Those hest alile to appreciate the problems resulting from this increased enrollment are Ralph Binnion. Director of Admissions. and Donald Renner, the University Regis- trar. Mr. Binnion is in charge of admissions to the schools of Humanities and Sciences, Engineering, Business, the Arts. and the University College. Approximately 1,300 students were chosen from over 2,000 applicants. As Registrar. Mr. Renner is in charge of the administra- tion of student records, which include grade point averages, transcripts. and student account reports. A Weldon Wlhitlow, Director of Financial Aid, deals with the areas of student recruitment and administration of scholarships. ln the spring, Mr. Whitlow travels to secon- dary schools throughout the country to interview prospec- tive freshmen. Mrs. Tillman is in charge of checking important correspondence and forwarding it to the proper offices. She also handles details for official functions such as the luncheon for Bob Hope. lioliert Xl. Trent has served as Director of Libraries for seventeen years. He has charge of four libraries. which contain ti total of 870.000 volumes. He and his staff are now formulating plans to remodel Fondren Library and huild an addition to the present facilities. As Executive Director of the Alumni Association, Pierce Allman is the link between the University and 33,000 alumni in the United States and 60 foreign countries. Mr. Allman travels to over fifty alumni associations each year to maintain communication between the University and former graduates. Mr. Allman and his staff play a vital part in recruiting outstanding high school students, coordi- nating arrangements for Homecoming, and supporting student activities through the donation of trophies for Sing-Song, Homecoming, and Manada.
