Smith, our Dean of Men, is a new man who fills a new iob at MV-TI. The office of the Dean of Men was sorely needed here, up to now, students with typical problems had no one person in whom to confide. Now Dean Smith stands ready and willing to help all students, no matter what their problems. He also serves as Registrar, Admissions OFl'icer, Assistant Principal, and Placements Director. Dean Smith graduated from Portland High School in 1948. He then played Professional baseball until 1951 when he entered the Army. In 1953 he married and then entered Murray State College, Kentucky, where he did undergraduate and graduate work, leaving in 1959 with a M.A. degree in Education Administration. He then re- turned to Portland to become an educational and vocational councilor at Deering High School. On 1, September, 1963, Deering's loss was MV-Tl's gain, when Mr. Smith was wel- comed here as Dean of Men. 19'5ZvT'47f 1':ilQ? In iust the past two years Mr. Hutchinson has brought about several maior improvements in our school. We now have a new dormitory as well as a new classroom building. The most recent and largest improvement of all is of course the cafeteria. There are hundreds of other less significant improvements which are not noticed, but we must remember that it takes many small bricks to construct a large building. Present as well as former students are deeply indebted to Mr. Hutchinson 'For his whole-hearted efforts to make MV-Tl a fine school. We are very fortunate to have a principal who pursues his work with such vigor. 3 ,t l 5: t flies i ,
