T E.-in if 34 F 0 0 N 1, SENIORS in BRIAN EUGENE BECHTEL General Industrial Bechtel is that solemn f?J soul who's always in a hurry to get out of homeroom and onto a home- ward-bound bus. His sly remarks have livened up many an otherwise mediocre day. When Brian is not busy in some phase of stage con- struction, he's probably messing around somewhere. There are no definite plans in Brian'sfuture. He just wants a job somewhere doing anything. Wljvr CAROLE ELAINE BEAN Academic Whipping around the halls on CHARLES ALFRED ANTLER General Industrial Who do you usually see getting out of classes to show a movie? Who else but Charlie Antler, the seniors' contribution to projection- ists' club. Charlie is abehind-the- scenes man who works with the stage crew to make our assemblies a success. The Marines received Charlie's bid for the first part of his future. After that. he'1l divide his time between a job and the out- door sports he enjoys. her way to this or that activity, Carole still has time to calla cheery hello to her friends. One of the most active seniors, Carole is also one of the friendliest. Her en- thusiasm and verve are evident as she leads the cheerleading squad. Carole spends many hours studying and preparing for the next day's classes, and many more hours plan- ning for a career in elementary teaching. .E- 25 LUCILLE HILDA BELTZ Secretarial Here is a gal who will make a prize catch for some sharp boss looking for a. fine secretary. Not only is she efficient, but she is also a blonde witha very winning smile. You can hear her contagious giggle long before she comes into view. She is a member of the band's color guard. Lucille is one of those rare beings who enjoys reading a book 41 . Y as Y even when no report is due. X Cf GRACE FAYE BENNER Secretarial Grace is amember of that cer- tain senior set which believes in using the library facilities totheir greatest advantage for she is always, always reading. This diligent young lady has displayed the characteris- tics ofa willing worker. Withapile of papers in one hand, and a pencil over one ear, Grace has wornapath to the office practice room learning all she can to help her become somebody's secretary. T9 29 KATHRYN RUTH BEN ZAK Academic There's no rest for the weary and no spare time for Kat whois busily occupied with band, yearbook, play prompting, and filling out ap- plications for M uh 1 e nb e r g, her dream college. With all extra- curricular school activities com- plete and homework done, Kat reads, rides horseback, and gives her brother a rough time. Kat's low, soothing voice has oft calmeda dis- traught, flustered friend. There is either abright idea or asly scheme brewing with Kat around. 'Ry fv- EMILY CATHERINE BISCHOFF Academic Sisty is master of infectious laughter and confusing explanations. Her Oh! speaks volumes of dis- may, disgust, and anger. She's al- ways busy at something, band, senior play, yearbook, newspaper. When she does finda moment to re- lax, she reads magazines or drives her dad's car. Her subtle sense of humor will aid her in her chosen profession, that of teaching special classes on the elementary level. ix., .gf- S-.. TIMOTHY BROWN BIRD Academic Ask a simple question, get a simple answer, said someone who obviously doesn't know this cham- pion debater. Tim has a vocabulary the size of Webster's and uses it to express himself at length. He has been known to orate passionately at the drop of an opinion. An A+ stu- dent, ahard-working leader, owner of a multitude of freckles, usually seen behind a big grin, Tim intends his talents for government service after college and the Navy. 1'-0 S- SO CHARLES LAMAR BERND Liberal Academic That mass hurtling by you at full speed was not a misguided missile, butif it was a Dodge convertible, it was probably heading toward the nearest golf course or trying to make band practice on time. It be- longs to Charlie Brown. Charlie is interested in hunting, fishing, and girls. His casualness about earth- shattering situations has made him notorious. A desire for higher ed- ucation is directing Charlie toward college. J CAROL LORETTA BLEAM Liberal Academic Ever see a group of closed mouth seniors walking through the halls after lunch? They're just Carol' s friends who had taffy passed out to them again. Since Carol's hobby is making taffy, everyone suffers -- diet-wise, that is. Her talent for this could come from the fact that she works at Three Oaks. The future may find Carol in nurses' training, but her plans at the present are uncertain. .LQ ,W W. , -qui -T?-f CATHERINE ROSE BRETZ Secretarial Cathy, a retiring girl witha demure smile, has acquired some important achievements in the com- mercial field. Among them are merit certificates for shorthand, typing, and bookkeeping. Her past work in the library helps her to choose the many books which she reads in her spare time. That is, when she's not listening to pop records. Her aspiration is to go to a junior college and later become a secretary for some boss. H5--n 3l ,1i25?,,,, bs LAMAR EDWARD BROADHEAD Clerical LaMar, who appears on the quiet side, is very thoughtful but full of zest. He is a whiz in book- keeping and has won the Bookkeeping Award in 1959. He was accredited with this Award because of his su- perior achievement in the Eastern Penna. Business Education Contest, at Bloomsburg. You can find LaMar somewhere out-of-doors, usually hunting or fishing. His post-gradu- ation plans are to attend Salem Bible Institute in Salem, Ohio. BARBARA JEAN CRESSMAN Secretarial Want to know the name of any good horse? If so, just ask the ex- pert, Barb. She holds the re- markable ability to sharpen a pencil as no one else can in Solehi. One of Barb's hobbies is archery. She likes to sketch, too. and read. In addition to all this, she plays the accordion. This petite lass has no definite plans for the future. K9 gl , NANCY RUTH COPE Clerical Laughing eyes and curly hair describe Nan . A faithful member of the senior chorus. she has akeen interest in singing. In her spare time she enjoys reading, dancing, skating, and several other sports. She also is atypist for the Southern Lehigh Sentinel. As of now Nancy has no definite plans for the future, but she is investigating several possibilities. Nan has earned a reputation for sharp dressing. 1.-, 595 Q4- 32 DAWNE ASTRIDE CASSELLE Liberal Academic If that report you're listening to is being delivered in confident tones, if it shows that research, time, and effort have gone into itg then it probably was the work of Dawne. The fact that she dresses well reveals her love of sewing. Cooking gourmet dishes, reading, and working crossword puzzles take up her extra time. Dawne plans a future in teaching history in a sec- ondary school. Penn State is her first choice as the college. BRENDA LOUISE CUMMINGS Liberal Academic She's tall, slim, and friendly, and she's generally late for basket- ball practice, but Brenda's heart belongs to nursing. To gain valu- able experience she's been a mem- ber of Nurse's club and worked during the summer as a Nurse's Aid. Brenda is handy with a needle and th r e a d. Consequently, her clothes are seldom held together with pins and may be of her own making. She's soft-spoken, but hard to guard on the basketball court. gnu i GARY MICHAEL CUNNINGHAM Liberal Academic Letters for baseball, basket- ball, soccer, skill in bowling, golf, and football all mark Gary as an all around athlete. More than this, Gary is a fellow whose ideas, friend- liness, ready comments, and mis- chevious facial expressions have become synonymous with fun. Gary can look oh, so innocent, especially after he's done some- thing wrong. Penn State is the college where Gary is looking for- ward to furthering his education. aug ah- 1 33 A MARSHALL GORDON DECKER Liberal Academic A newcomer to Solehi, is this husky lad who has an answer for everything. Whether it is logical or notis never considered. Juke is quite an athlete and excels in all sports. His future plans include college, which he hopes will be Penn State. After leaving college, he wants to go into big business- that of selling bulldozers, big Macks, and the like. GWYNNE ANN DI GIACINTO Clerical Although eating is a full time hobby with Di Gi, those nasty little calories don't seem to pile up on her like they so often do on the rest ofus. Perhaps she is sobusy writ- ing 1etters,d.ancing, watching T.V., and preparing for a career as an airline stewardess, that they don't have a chance. Known for her soft voice and pretty eyes, the late bell usually finds Gwynne minutes from where she's supposed to be. CEQ AI! l it SANDRA LEE DEUTSCH Secretarial Laughs galore! Never a dull moment with this A-1 comedienne around. Sandy, the life of every class, also loves to dance, play ten- nis, listen to those cra-a-a-zy records and TALK. lf you seea green Plymouth come careening towards you, move over, it must be Sandy. Bound for a career in the secretarial field, Sandy is sure to brighten some executive's office. 1 J ELLEN LOUISE DERSE General Quiet in ordinary conversation. Ellen has a clear, ringing voice when she sings with the Senior Chorus. Besides possessing singing ability, she's a talented artist, pianist, and clarinetist. Ellen can often be seen driving a 1949 Ford somewhere between Solehi and the orchards of which her family is part owner. Ellen hopes to be one of the girls pounding the keys of the typewriter. Q it i' i . CHARLES WILLIAM DILLEY, JR. Liberal Academic The male co-editor of our year- bookis rated by all who know him as the most practical and reliable fellow in reach. Bill is one of the best-liked people in the class, with his subtle humor and haunting smile. He is a sidekick of Dale Neas, and the two run Student Council with sure hands. Charley's plans are indefinite, although college is surely on the agenda. He enjoys listening to music, reading, and playing golf and tennis. Q S 'Y 'Civ - 3 l N05 Q3 'L JOAN ELIZABETH DUH Liberal Academic Almost every noontime for the past four years, Joan has munched on a sandwich, read a book, studied some notes for an upcoming quiz, and carried on a conversation with her tablemates. All this in 28 min- utes! This talented young lassie likes to draw, play the piano, and talk. Joan longs for a career in teaching and her heart belongs to the elementary grades. She intends to reach her goal by way of Penn State. I 35 di nys. JOAN ANN EGBERT Liberal Academic Joan is one of the closed-mouth seniors who suffers from Carol's taffy. Strange as it may seem, this does not interfere with her singing. Her soprano voice can be heard in Senior Chorus and her church choir. As a practical person, Joan plans a future in practical nursing. How- ever, spending a year as a Nurse's Aid before going to Nursing School seems to be a good idea to her. lg 5 DENNIS PAUL ERDMAN Liberal Academic Denny, quite a ladies' man, can either be found in Kemmerer's garage, tinkering with cars, talking about girls, or driving around in his PINK '49 Plymouth convertible. Denny is another outdoors man for he enjoys swimming, ice skating, hunting and fishing. Further school- ing, such as a two-year extension course, followed by a stretch with the Air Force are included in Denny's plans. 4 - CAROL ANN ERDMAN Liberal Academic Where's my class ring? What happened to my homework? What do you mean we're gonna have ahistory quiz today? Breathless- ly asked by atall miss withafrown, these questions form a major part of Carol's conversation. Not only is Carol a clarinetist of the first class, but she is an outstanding actress. As the third witch in Macbeth, she won the acclaim of classmates. As to her goal, Carol would like to be- come a nurse. Qi1V',AV 6 4 ds, wi' 1 g . DELORES JANE EMRICH Dee , a gal with a keen sense of humor, is outstandingin spelling. She has already won 3 medals as a spelling champ, one of which was a grade championship. Writing to friends, reading, and listening to the music of Johnny Mathis and Jimmy Rodgers are some of Dee-'s favorite pastimes. Ajeep charging by indicates Dee on her way to work. After leaving his Alma Mater, he plans to enter the Navy. ,a... Q, if C , KK .J CAROL LOUISE FUNK Liberal Academic Bangs and a sprinkle of freckles, plus quantities of pep, introduce Carol, an animal lover. She is devoted to her handsome Pinto, Nick, and spends much of her time horseback riding. Being an excell- ent musician she also participates in our band by playing the saxophone. After graduation she would like to pursue a career as a veterinarian or an interior decorator. lg, I: RALPH PAUL FRYLING General Pete is in the 180 pound weight class of the Solehi grapplers. He has won a varsity letter for wrestling. Playing a bass horn in the Solehi marching band has won him several awards. His wild laugh and unpredictable actions are an amusing sight. In his spare time Ralph can be found working on his HO Gauge trains or shooting his guns. Ra1ph's plans are to become a state trooper, so watch yourself! FRED GEHRIS Academic Because of an over-abundance of seniors named Fred , this one has adopted the nickname of Fritz. He always seems to be doing some- thing-- talking, reading, studying, thinking. A top-notch debater and an honor student, Fred's ultimate desire is to go into biological re- search, via pre-med at Muhlenberg, Princeton, or Swarthmore. Chem- istry classmates may remember his sterling discovery that chemistry manuals burn if turpentine and fire are added. Fred also plays cello, chess, and skis. 'Q' Y x L- 5 12 CHARLOTTE ANN GRUBE Clerical When the day is dreary and mucky, You can bet your new gym sneakers that Charlotte will say at one time or another during the 24 hour period, Oh, My hair! . Dan- cing finds favor in her sight. Con- sequently, 3:30 means Bandstand to Charlotte. Reading, too, is a favor- ite past time. She is known for her ability to express herself clearly and emphatically. 'Q' x ,9, AKYV LINDA LOU HAAS Clerical Otto, the girl with that per- fect Pennsylvania Dutch accent, can often be seen darting in and out of the nurse's suite. Who won the latest stock car race? Just ask Otto, she's sure to know. An ex- cellent seamstress, Linda also loves to cook. Although she now works as a Nurse's Aid at the Sacred Heart Sanitorium, Linda's future plans are to become a secretary at Western Electric. N.- itil ANNA MAE HILDENBRAND Secretarial Click-Clack Click-Clack ! It's just Anna going through her typing! Her labors have earned her second place in the typing contest. Other achievements include awards for her shorthand ability. That little blur you saw in the vicinity of the office practice room wasn't be- cause you've working too hard, but probably was Anna doing her routine work. Upon graduation, she hopes to get a job as secretary and do loads of typing. 3 l Q 3 5 5- in 3.-A DALE TIMOTHY HASSLER Liberal Academic Dale is a fine example of a good musician. He has been student band director for several years and received the Zeswitz Music Award for the outstanding musician of 1958 and 1959. Dale is often seen driving around town in his '53 Plymouth with Fritz, his faithful dachshund. In the days to come he will enter either a business college or study in the field of music. rf 7? N! 40 HAROLD HARVEY HARR Liberal Academic Harold is one of the athletes of our class and enjoys playing soc- cer, basketball, baseball, tennis, golf, and bowling.
