The portrayal of leadership, service, and scholastic achievement is the purpose of the National Honor Society. Each of its membersfhas strived to attain these goals. This year, the National Honor Society has followed the pattern of change at Southern Senior High. The organization membership quadrupled as a result of the increase in student population. Changing the image of their organization from that of a basically honorary and .inactive society, the National Honor Society of Southern Senior High has stressed the role of service this year. The National Honor Society has directed its efforts toward the formation of two scholarships to assist college bound seniors. To accomplish this, candy sales were sponsored and refreshments werre served at the monthly PTA meetings, all new activities in which the NHS has not previously participated. A NHS tea was introduced this year in an attempt to familiarize eligible students with the purposes of the NHS.
