PRINCIPAUS MESSAGE F. Markham Wingate, Principal 77 ,,,, ,W 7, ,,,, ,, Change Is is said that we are living at a time when change is the most important facet of our total environment. The generation gap at the college and high school level is said to have its basis in the resistance of the older adult group to changes proposed by the young adults. While there is undoubtedly some truth in this thesis, is it also not true that this is no recent phenomenon. To establish this proposition, we need go no farther back in history than to the days of that witty, but wise old fellow, Mark Twain. Mark Twain points out his amazement at how much his father learned in that short period of seven years while young Mr. Clemens grew from fourteen 1141 years of age to twenty-one QD years of age. While total resistance to change is stupid, it is easy to establish a claim for selective health resistance. What changes would any of us propose for these propositions: l. Respect for the rights of your fellow mang 2. Tolerance for the frailties of others in the same proportion as we seek from them for our owng 3. Equality under the law and in the eyes of Godg 4. Truth as best our limited concept can establish it. We think this requires no answer.

APPRECIATIO Though Time continually changes, the human emotion of gratitude will remain constant. The 1968-69 Echoes Staff has, among their memories of this school year, memories of a delightfully whirling experience of the execution of Echoes 69, - mistakes corrected, layouts rejected, and hurried dead lines met. Sharing our confusion and misadventures, were two amazing people - the Echoes staff still wonder how they could have possibly withstood those little questions, the bewildered hub-bub and the mischief that all went on behind that Yearbook Room's door. They helped us with a critical eye and a guiding hand, and with the use of that remarkable ingredient - patience. For such an intinite amount of guidance offered, it is indeed difficult to express all the gratitude we feel. Mrs. Redman and Mrs. Williams, may we and every 3-R sheet, every red cropping pencil and eraser that went into the production of Echoes 69', bid you our sincerest Thank you!

The warm, familiar breeze lingered 'as the year stepped upon the threshold of all. Through freshly painted doors, Southern's students passed to be greeted by a completely new environment. Lurking in halls, peering through faces, change invaded every part and particle of Southern High School. Something new, something strange - this change was to be met. , i,
