Seniors add The Conference champions, Southeast Falcons, swept down on our homecoming and destroyed dreams of a conference victory. Halfback Charlie Welch penetrated our defense for touchdowns as the Confed offense could not pile up enough points. The Falcons took home an 18-13 win. The mighty Confeds earned a state play- off bid by conquering the Eastern Eagles 33-13. Backs Sam Fisher and Andy Patterson led the rushing attack as they scored six points each. The Southerners also took to the air as Bobby Guthrie found end Brent Isley in the end-zone for a sixteen yard touchdown. Warren Hardin caught another and raced across the goal line. Ready for action. Confed rush on Mt. Airy Quarterback. Isley hauls in aerial. 66

got the combination...” For the second time in our school’s history our own mighty Confeds downed our arch rival, Graham, before a large crowd of Southern supporters. Our defense held the Red Devils scoreless for the complete game, while our offense put together several drives only to be stopped by costly fumbles and severe penalties. The only score of the night came late in the first half when Bobby Guthrie plunged over from the one-yard line. His own kick made the final score: Southern-7, Graham-0. The Confederates traveled to Bartlett- Yancey to face one of the toughest opponents of the season. For the first time, the Confeds had to come from behind; and early in the second half, they surmounted two drives to make the final score 13-7. Guthrie scores against Graham. Fisher scores again!

Strength and experience The Leadership of the senior Confeds highlighted our team this year and made it one of the finest in the county. Having worked together for several years, these boys helped make our season one Brent Isley Terry Johnson Hank Kirkpatrick to be long remembered. Although they will not be at Southern next year, they have influenced our team by making them realize the importance of sportsmanship, leadership, and honesty.
