Miss Linda Wright was chosen MISS SOUTHERNER of i960 by Andy Griffith, a noted Broadway actor and television personality. Mr. Griffith, originally a Tarheel, made his choice from portraits and candids submitted by the annual staff. He mulled over the pictures for four days, and then called in a number of the cast members to get their opinions before making his final decision. It was interesting to note that each girl received at least one first place vote. One quotable quote from Mr. Griffith is lf l had my way, there would never be another beauty contest. It makes some young girl mighty happy and some others mighty sad. Shucks, they're all pretty. Any one of them would make a fine Queen. i 4 4 0 ll, f 0 I' I1 0 I' Miss Linda Wright

It was the 'iight of Homecoming, and the Homecoming Queen was to be announced. Each class had chosen a representative to be in the court. The senior class had three, two attend- ants and the Queen. The court entered during the half-time break and the Queen, Linda Wright was crowned by the i959 Queen, Linda Hutson. Even though Southern was blessed with a drizzle and Southern's Rebels lost the game, everyone's spirits remained undampened and the Rebels enjoyed a sock hop in the school lobby after the game. 1
