DEBATE CLUB The Debate Club, under the direction of Mr. Jerald Pierce held its try outs in the middle of the year, The club had two teams, the A and B teams. The A team was composed of Haywood Clayton, Jill Salinger, Wallace Daniel, and Marietta Stevenson. A great deal of time was spent gathering materials from the University of North Carolina and Duke Libraries. LEFT TO RIGHT: Mr. Jerald Pearce, SPONSOR: Kay Lupton, Haywood CI ayton, Sandy Hackney, Marietta Stevenson, Johnny Mullen, Jill Salinger, Marc Copeland, Wallace Daniel, and Gayle Perry. LIBRARY CLUB Members of the Library Club contribute one period a day to work in the library. These are students who explore the library in order to assist hurried readers to find that favorite book. 4-H CLUB Southern High School 4-H Clubbers strive to make the best better through diligent work onavariety of twenty-six various projects in the field ot agriculture and homemaking. Members are as follows: FIRST ROW: Willie Lou Lynn, James Taylor, Kenneth Parker, Truett Ray, Rachel Gunter, Phyllis Snipes. SECOND ROW: Gray Carpenter, Frank Bordeaux, John Bass, Frances Bass, Russelene Barbee, Frances Pender. THIRD ROW: Malcolm Kelly,Jerry Ellis,Gaynette Ellis, Betsy Chandler, Betsy High, Bertita Ray. FOURTH ROW: Steve Nichols, Carl Fox, Paul Hall, Carol Brame, Linda Mayes, Patsy Currie, Linda Willette. GLEE CLUB The Glee Club rendered music for every occasion such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and Gradua tion, under the direction of Mrs. Jocelyn Rosemond and Mr. Teer. Through their own enioyment of singing these students have increased the music appreciation of many others.
