'97 EUTURE TEACHERS OE AMERICA The Future Teachers ot America be- gan its year by presenting an assembly program for National Education Week. During this program various teachers were acknowledged and presented with humorous gifts. ln February, the Northern High School Chapter ot the E.T.A. was honored at a tea in our high school library. Miss Clay spoke to the group about scholarship possibilities. A picnic at Duke Park climaxed the year's activities. The outstanding event for the local chapter this year was being hostess for the state convention held at the Washington Duke Hotel. FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA FUTURE HOMEMAKERS OF AMERICA The main purposes ofthe Future Homemakers of America are growing in appreciation of homemaking and farthering interest in home economics. This year one of the activities was a mother-daughter banquet which was held in Mav. Promoting character and worthy leadership are the maior aims of the organization. The Future Farmers of America strive to develop their homes and communities. One of their proiects for the year was selling ice cream at recess. Paris FRENCH CLUB Le Circle de Francais was organized in the fall, due to the request of the stu- dents. The meetings featured programs about Napoleon Bonaparte, the City of Paris, Christmas customs in France, and French art. Highlights of the year were, a movie, Flight to Paris, a skit of The Night Before Christmas, and attending the French play at Duke University. LATIN CLUB The Latin Club, newly formed this year, already has several activities to its cre- dit. Its members attended the North Carolina Junior Classical League Convention in Chapel Hill, sponsored bake sales at recess, and from these proceeds held a sump- tuous Roman Banquet as a climax to the year.
