To those of you who will be receiving diplomas, our professional staff extends their sincere congratulations. This represents a reward for long effort, and will prove of real value in the future. Never before wasa sound education more highly rated and never wasa solid background more essential to future success, While stepping out into life's greater opportunities with diplomas, you must re- member that you are just commencing. What has transpired to this point is more or less training. The possibilities which lie ahead for each of you are almost unlimited. In a world in which distance has lost its significance and space has become a link instead of a barrier, in which political, economic, and social problems transcend national boundaries, national sov- ereignty has lost some of its relevance. Our world is in a time of transition. The old order is Changing. Long established traditions are giving away to new ideas. Dramatic advance in med- icine, reducing infant mortality and extending the life span have brought about revolutionary changes inour personal lives. Automation and technology have improved our way of life. There has been a great explosion of knowledge. Yet with this vast store of knowledge opening wider day by day, there are many implications and problems which we have not had to cope in years gone by. Perhaps the greatest threat to us as a result of successive breakthrough in science and technology is our apparent concern for material benefits. Let usnot forget that while science and technology, when properly used, can be the greatest blessing that mankind has ever known, but improperly used, these ‘advances can destroy us. Thus, there isa greater need today for young men and women of honesty, sincerity, goodwill and absolute integrity to maintain an equilibrium in a world where all too often false standards and false values are the order of the day. Let us not fall into the error of taking it for granted that better material standards automatically make people, because unfortunately, they do not. We must again, relearn and reaffirm the lesson that men shall not live by bread alone, . Let us also remember that there can be dignity in all occupations, whether they are professional, skilled, semi-skilled or general labor. Let us never reach the point where the character of the individual is determined by socio-economic factors. Respect each individual for what he is as a person and not his position on the social or economic ladder of life. A wise philosopher once said, ''Without dew and light flowers fade. Charity and love are the dew and light of the human heart. Pipl pe ‘ Nira Na ely a ges ee a
