Miss . : Roberta M. Cogley, Mr. Elmer W. Crone. Cars Aistory It was in the fall of 1950 that two hundred and four eighth graders entered Oakland High. High school brings many strange and surprising things to eighth graders but we soon become accustomed to our new surroundings. We elected our class officers who were Linda Pritts, president; Bill Teets, vice-president; Shirley Calhoun, secretary; and Becky White, treasurer. They planned our eighth grade picnic, which was our biggest function for 1950-51. We eighth graders became freshmen in the fall of 1951. Barbara Shank, president; Norma Arnold, vice-president; Janie Glotfelty, secretary; and Delores Warnick, treasurer, planned our first party which was held in the gymnasium of old Oakland High. It was in our sophomore year that we entered our new high school buiiding in 1952. Norman Reckart, president; Rebecca White, vice-president; Shirley Shaffer, secretary; and Harold Lantz, treasurer, again planned another picnic for us at Swallow Falls. The sophomore class passed right into the junior year wherewe presented our biggest function of our school life. D. F. Lane, president; Jim Glotfelty, vice-president; Joann Hollen, secretary; and Bill Savage, treasurer, were the leaders in presenting the Junior-Senior Prom with the theme of “Dancing In the Dark.” In the fall of 1954 we entered our last year of high school. Fred Stemple, president; Larry Friend, vice-president; Nancy Jones, secretary; and Joann Hollen, treasurer, were elected to plan our last year’s affairs. We looked forward to attending the football parade and the football games which made their debut this year. On November 20, we took our senior trip to College Park. Time passed so rapidly that we found ourselves looking forward to the prom. Then there was the Senior Assembly and the Senior Picnic. The Sermon to the Grads was finally upon us and we found ourselves marching down the aisle to receive our diplomas and face the future with open minds. My, what four years to reminisce about! Little did we realize as eighth graders that we would graduate from such a modern and beautiful school as Southern High. Now that these one hundred thirty-seven seniors have passed through the portals of Southern High into fields of various vocations, we hope our deeds and leadership will remain with those we leave behind. 10
