H i FOREWORD As we the class of 1980 look back on the 1979-1980 school year we were all very concerned with energy conservation. We . .. Shut doors and windows and turned off lights. The faculty and students were asked to turn down thermostats. Field trips took a decline, and we had more home track meets because of the high price of gasoline. At $1.25 a gallon it surely doesn’t go very far! . attributed much of our anxiety to the Ayatollah Khomeini. Our country became very concerned with the diplomatic staff which were taken hostage by the militant stu- dents in Iran. Ventilated our purses trying to pay 18% inflated prices. The price of gold soared; our class rings cost approximately $95 for boys and $65 for girls in 1978 and in 1980 they will approx- imately cost $250 for boys and $175 for girls. As you can see gold prices even hit our area. Engaged in studies, sports, and dreams with full gusto. This year was a record for dances and other school activities. We had four dances; FBLA sponsored three skating parties; and career day took place on February 20 at McConnellsburg High for all Seniors. On March 10 students from Fulton and Franklin Counties came to our school for County Chorus. (jave ourselves to the thoughts of the eminent draft, the six gold medals at the Winter Olympics at Lake Placid, and locally with the spring sports teams. I A, ttempted to make the honor roll, win our athletic ■ til games with other schools, to give our best at the concerts, and to ; i offer an ourstanding performance in the “Clumsy Custard s i Florror Show . 3jN§ SM aved fuel at home by putting in wood burning stoves; : saved gas by not running around as much on weekends; and the $5 FBLA saved old glasses for the needy. jXj Our school’s enrollment for the year was at an all-time high 2][5 with 532 students when our doors opened for the school year in jjjj August, and now in April as this is being typed, there are 503 stu- dents in grades 7-12. We are not bursting at the seams, but our capacity to increase our numbers is nearly exhausted. Student involvment with world affairs at home and abroad have been greater in the 1979-80 school year than ever before. Fifteen of our students even spread their wings to see how life really is over there in the “Old Country by flying to France in (• April. This year has been a mixture of spending more for less and saving more for that rainy day, but still remembering to enjoy life as it is and planning for a brighter tomorrow. V. li m ¥’ ¥ O ALMA MATER Blow, oh gentle mountain breezes. From the golden west; Breathe thy peaceful evening tidings To S.F.H.S. Whisper to us words of pleasure. As the dim twilight Softly gathers round our colors. Dear Maroon and White. To the Indians brave and noble, We will not refuse Loyalty and firm devotion. When we win or lose; We will always sing thy praises. Work for thy success; Hail to noble Alma Mater, Hail S.F.H.S. — Words by Mrs. Dorothy Golden TABLE OF CONTENTS Dedication .............................................3 Yearbook Staff..........................................4 Administration.........................................14 Faculty................................................15 Activities.............................................29 Organizations..........................................55 Sports ................................................75 Underclassmen..........................................97 Seniors..............................................113 Graduation............................................132 The First 50 Classes .................................137 Days Gone By ........................................163 Advertising...........................................197 Senior Directory ....................................222 Senior Baby Pictures..................................230 Autographs............................................232 i; a ‘i;1 ‘i :« ivi i; .v. •?...v, .1-..V.,v..
