FOREWORD Our schools with their friendly walls hold fond memories of happy hours, cherished friendships, serious endeavors, and lasting achievement for this year’s graduating class and all previous classes. We, the class of 1976 hope to bring back cherished memories with pictures and history of the school district in this year’s edition of the Chieftain. We wish to express our appreciation to all the people whose co-operation helped make this yearbook possible. It has been a rewarding experience for us to try to piece our heritage together; and mistakes have no doubt been made, but we hope you will choose to overlook these and enjoy our efforts. IN SCHOOL DAYS Still sits the school-house by the road, A ragged beggar sleeping; Around it still the sumachs grow. And blackberry-vines are creeping. Within, the master's desk is seen. Deep scarred by raps official; The warping floor, the battered seats. The jack-knife’s carved initial; The charcoal frescos on its wall; Its door's worn sill, betraying The feet that, creeping slow to school. Went storming out to playing! Long years ago a winter sun Shone over it at setting; Lit up its western window-panes. And low eaves’ icy fretting. It touched the tangled golden curls. And brown eyes full of grieving. Of one who still her steps delayed When all the school were leaving. For near her stood the little boy Her childish favor singled; His cap pulled low upon a face W'here pride and shame were mingled Pushing with restless feet the snow To right and left, he lingered;- As restlessly her tiny hands The blue-checked apron fingered. He saw her lift her eyes; he felt The soft hand's light caressing. And heard the tremble of her voice. As if a fault confessing. “I’m sorry that 1 spelt the word: I hate to go above you, Because,” the brown eyes lower fell. “Because, you see. I love you!” Still memory to a gray-haired man That sweet child-face is showing. Dear girl! the grasses on her grave Have forty years been growing! He lives to learn, in life’s hard school, How few who pass above him Lament their triumph and his loss. Like her, because they love him. -John Greenlcaf Whittier TABLE OF CONTENTS Administration and School Board 4 Faculty 5 Staffs 9 Activities 11 Sports 43 Underclassmen 57 Seniors 69 Heritage of our Past 81 Past Graduation Classes 104 Advertisements 127 It’s Academic 149 Graduation 154 Senior Directory 158 Greg Mellott, Student Council President, announcing the day’s events.

With great honour and appreciation, we. the class of 1976, dedicate our yearbook, the Chieftain, to Mr. John Elbin. Mr. Elbin graduated from Southern Fulton in 1948 and received his degree from Millersville State College in 1952. He then served as an academic instructor in the Air Force until 1955. Mr. Elbin began his teaching career at Newport. Pa., where he taught one year before coming to Southern Fulton in 1956. For 12 years Mr. Elbin was our baseball coach until 1973. His Athletic Banquet speeches will always be remembered. Mr. Elbin’s words of advice are: “Be yourself, don’t pattern yourself after someone else. Don’t try to be something you’re not.” 3
