THE CHIEFTAIN Published by the Senior Class SOUTHERN FULTON HIGH SCHOOL Warfordsburg, Pennsylvania ANDREWS PHOTOGRAPHY 649 Phi la. Avenue Chambersburg, Pennsylvania yH. B. MELLOTT ESTATE INC. Stone and Mixed Concrete McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania FOREWORD Although we live in an age of miraculous drugs, simplified teaching methods, and ventures into space, nothing will ever be able to take the place of a good memory. However, should some memories fail, we will endeavor, through this edition of The Chieftain, to help in the reminiscence of school life. We hope it will be useful in bringing back fond memories of years spent at Southern Fulton. PEOPLE’S NATIONAL BANK Hancock, Maryland 3 IN MEMORY Mr. Gordon Charlton received his training in the field of education at Shippens- burg State Teachers College. After teaching for a number of years at Wilmore, Pennsylvania, he became principal and later supervising principal of the schools in that area. Mr. Charlton came to Warfordsburg in 1942. Here he served as science instructor and high school principal. In 1954 he was elected supervising principal of the Southern Fulton Schools; he held this position until his retirement in July, 1962. On August 14, 1962 he suf- fered a fatal heart attack. Mr. Charlton diligently worked for the personal improvement of his students and for the advancement of the schools in the district. He gained the admiration and re- spect of everyone who knew him and those who were associated with him are acutely aware of their loss. 4 ADMINISTRATION FACULTY MR. FRANKLYN I. GIEST, SR. B.S., M.ED.
