Text from Pages 1 - 80 of the 1959 volume:

FOREWORD On May 29, 1959, we shall join the ranks of the hundreds of alumni who have been produced by Southern Fulton High School since it first opened its doors in 1927. At that date, Bethel Township stood on the threshold of the future with a new high school. History does repeat itself, because next September, it is expected that a new million dollar junior- senior high school will welcome the expanding school population of our community. This will mean ex- tended opportunities, more adequate facilities, and better preparation of our youth for their rightful place in society. We, the class of 1959, feel that although we may be marking the end of an era, it is an end that is welcome, because only by bringing the present to a close, can we begin the future with a sense of accomplishment, achievement, and great confidence in the future of our community. Dying embers in the fireplace have become ashen and gray; like many a hope that brightly burned when youth sang its cheery song and all the world was young. Night comes after a day of fevered toil, after the din and clatter, after the strain and stress. Peace now walks abroad with gentle footsteps -- let the weary rest. A thousand voices are hushed; discords have been resolved into harmony — night has come. Night comes after the day of weary labor, but in the early morning darkness, just before the dawn, homelights, shining like a beauteous beacon star, welcome us to living arms and eyes that shine with tender memories and a world of love. Night comes after the day has written its story; after our work, be it brief or long, is done with glad assurance, we fold our garments, knowing that after the night shall come the morning, and with the morning shall come heaven, and rest, and home. 28 MOST POPULAR Ruth Smith, Ray Palmer QUIETEST Rodger Mellott, Peggy Stanley MOST ATHLETIC MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED Josephine Breakall, Glenn Booth Linda Barnhart, Ray Chesnut 29 MOST STUDIOUS Mary Stevens, Franklin McKee BEST LOOKING Delores Barnhart, James Akers WITTIEST June Miller, George Mellott MOST DEPENDABLE Alma Karns, Dale Truax 30 BEST DRESSED Delores Barnhart, James Akers BEST PERSONALITY Ruth Smith, Hixon Akers BEST STUDENTS Mary Stevens, Maynard Spade NOISIEST June Miller, George Mellott 31 CLASS WILL Hixon Akers. . . . All of these events assisted in swelling the class treasury. Highlights of the year were the receipt of our class rings and junior-senior prom. Many from our class were active in various extra-curricular activities, thus contributing to school spirit and fun.
