And we will not forget tho' we be far, far away. To the hallow’d HALLS OF IVY every voice will bid farewell. And shimmer off in twilight like the old vesper bell. One day a hush will fall, The footsteps of us all will echo down the hall and disappear, But as we sadly start our journeys far apart, A part of every heart will linger here in the sacred HALLS OF IVY Where we’ve lived and learned to know. WALTER MORRIS, INTERNATIONAL DEALER Everett, Pennsylvania CLASS WILL We, the class of 1956, being of sound mind and body, do hereby declare the following manuscript to be our last will and testament. To all the underclassmen we leave the guidance, affection, and good judgment which our teachers have shown during these four years; to our teachers, the knowledge that their efforts have not fallen entirely upon deaf ears or mute tongues. Many years indeed shall pass before any of us will forget the patience, understanding, and perseverance they have shown toward us in our sometimes unwilling search for knowledge. To the school board and all of the school employees our most sincere thanks for all the benefits we have derived from attending Southern Fulton; and the hope that for our school the present improvements are truly just a beginning. ROSENS DEPARTMENT STORE Hancock, Maryland DUKES RESTAURANT Hancock, Maryland CLASS HISTORY The Class of 56 entered Southern Fulton Joint High School as Freshmen with 73, the largest class ever to be enrolled here. We chose our .officers as follows: President, Stanley Palmer; Vice-President, Betty Layton; Secretary, Walter Peck; Treasurer, Betty Crouse; Historian, Nancy Smith. We followed through with initiation, Glee Club, Carnival, Basketball, Tri-Hi-Y and Hi-Y, also a roller skating and Halloween party. This completed our first year in high school and looked forward to the rights and privileges of becoming Sophomores. As Sophomores we came back only to find some of our class gone. It seemed that the Belfast students had been transferred to Green Hill High School, and we were left with only 50 in our class this year. We joined the school activities which were about the same as last year and elected our officers, again with Gene Ritz as President, Sonja Shives as Vice-President, James Ritz, Secre- tary; Betty Crouse, Treasurer; Nancy Smith, Historian. Again came the close of a school year, with our hopes high that we should become bright and shiny Juniors. We were Juniors now with 48 on the roll, and new teachers and subjects which kept us stepping. We were very busy in school activities as well. Our class officers were: Nancy Smith as President; Vice-President, Gene Ritz; Secretary, Sylvia Chestnut; Treasurer, Jimmy Ritz; Historian, Alys Wright. We were happy to give our Seniors a farewell party, to Hagerstown Park for a weiner roast and then to a movie, “A Man Called Peter.” We came back with the realization that we must step in to fill their places next year, and so ended our Junior year. Well, we’re back already--there are 42 of us now--‘‘Big Wheels.” Now we are old people of Southern Fulton Joint. This is a big year, and we have a lot ahead of us. The first two months of school we spent a great amount of time having our yearbook pictures taken and soliciting advertising. Early in November we started to rehearse for our play ‘‘Let’s Face It” which was presented December 1st and 2nd. This year our class finds Sonja Shi ves as President; Stanley Palmer, Vice-President; Sylvia Chestnut, Secretary; Donald Hixon, Treasurer; and Nancy Smith Historian. Following a welcome Christmas vacation we ordered our Graduation Announcements and Name Cards. Basketball season was now going full strength with six boys and six girls from the Senior Class sparking the teams in their games. This spring during much of our time we have been working on arrangements for our trip to Washington. With our Baccalaureate Service, May 20th, and our Commencement exercise May 25th we marked the official ending of our four years at Southern Fulton, four years which we hope shall prove profitable and memorable to all of us in the years to come.
