Choir performed a wide range of musicals under the direction of Dr. Doon Diers. Early in October, the choir combined 'With faculty members and area guest soloist to perform a Shubert concert, in recognition of the composer's birthday. The Choir also hosted a community sing in December with the first part of Handel's Messiah. he faculty of Southern Connecticut State College con- sists of hundreds of men and women of diverse back- grounds, interests, and teaching styles. Insofar as aca- demic background is concerned, research has shown that SCSC has a higher percentage of faculty with doctorates than most institutions of its size. Yet, it is widely acknowledged by students that academic preparation is not the sole criteria by which to recognize an effective teacher. Those faculty members most requested and respected by students appear to be those who respect their students, display a willingness to help students to understand their subject bet- ter, and who are well-versed in their subject area.
