This book is one of current events, it relates to movies, it relates Ashland to the fads of the world. So, as you open this yearbook, prepare to enter it for a RETURN ENGAGEMENT of the years 1978-79. Every town has its own special trademark. Ashland conforms to the fads of the nation, yet has its own unique flavor. “Saturday Night Live” has made quite an impression on the TV audience, as well as Ashland. The “Coneheads”, “Rosannadana” and the “Wild Crazy” guys enter the homes of Ashland late Saturday night. On Halloween Day, Stagecraft and Drama Class students dressed up in costumes. Left: Mike Nichols and Dennis Sapp prepare to eat their fried embryos. They dressed up as the “Coneheads” from “Saturday Night Live.” April 18, 1979 marked the first annual “Rosann Rosannadana Look-a-Like Day” and “Wild and Crazy” day. During the summer they visit friends and some even work! When school starts, everyone settles down for the long winter, that is on its way. With winter, comes snow and sleet resulting in days off from school, because of bad road conditions. Then comes spring. Along with this comes warm days, green grass and the long awaited SPRING FEVER! This is the time, when the students begin job hunting for the summer and yearning for the end of school. Top row: (left to right) Steve T. helps haul in the hay. The class decided to perform “The Crucible,” which dealt with Salem witch trials. Some parents believed it would influence students. The play itself centered around John Proctor and his wife Elizabeth. Elizabeth is a good Puritan woman who accused of being a witch by several young women who are causing chaos at this time. They are accusing many innocent women of being witches. John Proctor at the end hangs defending his wife. 44 BRER 2 With below freezing temperatures, the parade marched on. As the floats were beginning to be brought to the school that morning, light snow fell-turning to water. This didn’t hamper the enthusiam of the red nosed, purple lipped, shivering students though!! The EAGLE staff worked hard to use new ideas to update the yearbook. This meant acquiring a theme and sticking to it as closely as possible. Catchy headlines had to he thought of to make you WANT to read that page, and lots of copy had to be written to fill up those dreaded white spaces. We used larger pictures than in the past, so the subject area could be seen easier and the pictures had to be switched around so they would look right on the page. The ad pages laid out with a special border, and more pictures were used in this section - all to make a more interesting and unique yearbook for 1979-80.
