Senior Class History In August of 1968, 53 Freshmen began four years of high school. The chosen leaders were Greg Wren, President; Rick Tracy, Vice President; Paula Rowley, Secretary- Treasurer; and Debbie Garrett, Student Council Repre- sentative. Class sponsors were Mrs. Curtman and Mr. Zike. The class party was held in September at Randy Peterson’s. Kathy Gilpin was selected as our Barnwarmin’ Candidate. “Happiness Is ” was the theme of Home- coming and the Freshmen finished it as our float, “Hap- piness is Running Over Alumni,” won first place. To build our treasury we sold delicious home-made candy. With 1969 came 57 Sophomores. Class officers were Dale Lenger, President; Jerry Bowden, Vice President; Debbie Garrett, Secretary-Treasurer; and Brenda Barner and Cindy Stewart, Student Council Representatives. Mr. Barr and Mrs. Kaplan were our sponsors. We were happy to have Debbie Garrett represent us at Barnwarmin’ and Debbie Griffin at Homecoming. Keeping with the theme, “Do Your Own Thing,” our float, “Cut ’em Down, Send ’em Home,” again won first place. Our class party was held at school. Selling home-made candy was our money-making project. Karen Ingles and Jerry Bowden were selected as our Mr. and Miss AHS Candidates. Many Sophomores also had the opportunity to attend Prom as servers. Fifty-nine Juniors returned to school in 1970. Class officers were Debbie Garrett, Presi- dent; Danny Nichols, Vice President; Linda Hackman, Secretary-Treasurer; Jim Brink and Charlie Martin, Student Council Repre- sentatives. Our sponsors were Mrs. Batha and Mr. Barr. We were pleased to have Bren- da Barner selected as Barnwarmin’ Candi- date. One of the highlights of the year, as al- ways, was Homecoming, with the theme “Spirit of ’76.” Our float had the same theme and also won first place. Nancy Bul- lard held the position of Homecoming Candi- date. Jim Brink and Loretta Brune were chosen as AHS Candidates, and Loretta was elected Miss AHS. With Prom coming, we decided to have a Ham and Bean Supper, pro- vide the concession stand at the State Bow Tournament, and present a play. The play, “Grandad Goes Wild, netted us $300 and was directed by Mrs. Jean Batha. We were very excited to receive our class rings in April. “Arrivederci Roma” was set as the theme for Prom, and “Field provided the music for the dance. 20

After three seemingly short years, 56 Seniors entered our last year of high school. Our of- ficers were Jim Brink, President; Rick Tracy, Vice President; Donna Smith, Secretary- Treasurer; Debbie Garrett and Charlie Martin, Student Council Representatives. Mr. Clapp and Mrs. Turner were our sponsors. D’Ann Long was our Barnwarmin’ Candidate. Our magazine sales broke all previous school records. Other money-making projects were a chili supper, concession stand at the Region- al Tournament, the Country Shindig, and the Harlem Thrillers. Janis Johnson reigned over Homecoming. Our float, “We Just Want to Celebrate Another Eagle Victory,” proved to be another first place winner. The Senior class officers Jim Brink, Donna Smith, and Rick Tracy proudly display their class pennant. Beverly Vaughn and Greg Wren were our AHS Candidates, and Bev was chosen Miss AHS. Linda Hackman and Dale Lenger were voted Queen and King of the Valentine’s Sweetheart Dance. At Prom, Vicki Harmon and Mike Sapp were named Prom King and Queen. The Spring Concert of the band and choruses was dedi- cated to the Seniors. One of the big events of the year was the trip to Kalfran Lodge at the Lake of the Ozarks. Baccalaureate was on May 21 with Reverend Roy Weister as the speaker. The long awaited event. Commence- ment, was held on May 25. The address was given by Mr. A. E. Beach. The Seniors, in blue robes, were presented their diplomas and per- formed a candle lighting ceremony. Graduation closed one chapter in the life of every Senior. 21
