The Campus of Christian purpose has been a foundation for many pastors and leathers throughout the South. Southern has been making progress steadily ever since its establishment. This year we were priviledged to add the new student center and B. S. U, chapel to our growing campus. We believe that Southern will Continue to grow in spirit as well as in academic standing. LINKS THE LOCAL CHURCH WITH STUDENTS The Baptist Student Union of Southern Baptist College, sponsored by J. T Midkiff, is the largest organization on the campus. Two devotionals are held daily in the lovely new chapel. This is a spirit- ual up-lift lo the students and the faculty. The B. S. U is totally led by the students. Highlights of the year sponsored by the B, S. U are the R67 Iigious Focus Week in the fall which brings many outstanding Christian people to the campus and the spring revival in connection With the College City Baptist ChurclL The B, S. U is active in con ducting church services throughout the area, A number of active students in the B. Osborn injured a knee during the first three weeks of the season and had to leave the team at semester, Larry Jaques, one of the hardest working and most spectacular jump shooters in Southern's history received a broken hand during the Farmington tournament, so he and his 13 point average per game was lost for the month of February. Aundrea Curtis the Big Bull came through in the clutch and led the team to a record of 20 wins and 10 losses, as he gained recognition as the leading scorer in Region VII NJCAA with at 21A average. Aundrea also set the Southern Baptist College individual game scoring record with 48 points against FL Smith Jr. College Freshmen came through all season to keep the Eagles home court winning streak intact. The Eagles haven't lost at home in two and a half sea- sons. Kenny Wilkerson and Carrol Cookson led the freshmen as they came through time after time, with Wilkerson making the all-tournament team in the Bi-State th College tournament. INTRAMURALS WITHIN OUR ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT AT SOUTHERN The aim of tile intramural program is to bene- fit. each student physically, mentally, and socially. The intramural program develops teamwork, co- operation, and sportsmanship through the various activities. By parLicipming in the games of basketball, bad- minton, volleyball, ping pong, bowling, and soft- ball the students receive an understanding of the intramural program at Southern Baptist. Teams are selected, practice is carried on and games are played which are enjoyed by those who participate and also by the spectators. This type of competition is typical of the intramural program. Trophys are rewarded to the champions. Basketball teams, which are organized and coach- ed by the students, have a schedule of intramural meets for both boys and girls. The same plan is used duxing the spring semester when softball games are played. This intramural program gives students an op portunity to exercise old skills and to develop new ones. It was on March 19, 1963, that the president and dean wete informed by the associate secretary of the North Central Asmiation that Southern had been fully accredited by NCA. This joyful news was the culmination of more than ten years of hard work on the part nf everyone connected with Southern, The faculty, Dean Behannon and the Board of Trustees are all due a special tribute for every effort put forth to bring about this eventful step in the life of nThe Campus of Christian Puxpose . This achievement, the highest acctediatlon available to junior colleges, puts Southern in an enviable position enjoyed by only 3491: of the junior colleges of the seventeen state region cf NCA. It also answers all questions as tn the level of scholarship of the college and her relationship with othet colleges over the world Though her credits have been good in the ask, this additional confirmation of her work removes doubts which may he raised y the uninformed and prejudiced.
