There will be a number of errors, but before you complain we ask you to say to yourself, Would I have done better? Some names will be wrong, someone will be left out. It is not our intention to overlook any one but various con- ditions have been responsible. The staff and others have worked together for this publication. E, Williams, the man whom God led in early 1941 to start laying plans for the opening of that instir cation. With God as the lcadev, President Williams has guided South- ern up the hill of service to those who needed and desired Christian Education. Never in the history 01 the college has anyone been turned away because at financial status, but this man at faith has directed others to depend on God. We also appreciate the fact that a man as busy as the president can always find time to listen to problems and counsel those that seek advice '1 can do all things through Chn'st who :lrenglhens me. Each instructor has felt in his or her heart that the place that they can best serve is at Southern. Probably our faculty members are paid less than any other college professors in the state, but God has always provided. No one is tlzmtisticd. A group of seven men and women represent the official board. They are not deacons because the Chapel is not an organized church. The First Baptist Church, Poca- honlas, and the First Baptist Church, Walnut Ridge have extended arms to re- ceive members. The Congregation is made up of students, the wives of students, and their families and others residing at the Air wh LEE PEPPERS, Pastor Bast CHAPEL a ,uw' ,w Hmm wgatwwr;nxwww whiffa gisugft'rw M OFFICERS CLUB TEMPORARILY USED AS ADMINISTRATION BUILDING For the first five years of the life of Southern Baptist College, classes were met in Pocahontas Hallt Classes were held, meals were served, and several sLur dents slept in the same building, Pocahontas Hall, which had been acquired from the city of Pocahontas tor a long period of time. Expansion of the school brought about by a multiplied enrollment made the space provided inadequate. On December 26, 1946 the College was forced to move due to thc lamentable fire which consumed Pocahontas Hall. The building was dcsL yed but the college got out safely, not without heavy losses, but without loss of life. Marie Carter 7 Art Editor 1945 - 46 ANNUAL STAFF The staff of the 1945-46 Annual worked hard in gathering material for that particular publication; but as you know our efforts were all in vain due to the fire that destroyed the college administration building. We felt and still feel that a great privilege was entrusted into our hands. Even though we could not help what happened, we feel that we failed in that undertaking The student body was very cooperative in sharing this loss. They went so far as to contribute the remaining tunds tor the purchase of a much needed bell system, an act that is much appreciated. We also appreciate the privilege at making the above statements regarding the 4546 Annual. This privilege was granted by the Editor of the 46-47 Annual, which shows a fine spirit of Cooperation on his part. It so happens that all of our staff except one is enrolled again this year. It promotes throusv'w its much ings, cooperation; through its fellowship, friendliness and love for one another. The membership of the sotlcty is made up 01 most of the min- isLers 01' the college and those prcparing for um work. They are received upon giving a satiskacmry testimony at the experience of saving grace, divine call to the ministry. and the vote of the society. The officers ars as follows: president, vice-prcsident, secretary- treasurer, reporter, and faculty sponsor. A11 oUicers except the faculty sponsor, who serves for one year, are elected cvcry quaner by nomination and vote ok the body. The Ministerial Society, till now, remains an organization of ministers who have the purpose of the order on their heam. n has grown as the institution has increased.
